I will avoid spoilers and keep this simple: this book is everything a reader could hope for in the finale of the dramatic, violent, intricate Green Bone Saga. These books are epics that will remain classics going into future
If you haven't read these books yet, DO NOT START HERE. Go to book one, Jade City. Let yourself be swept away. Experience the full sweep of the saga so you'll cry at the end here, as I did.
That being said, I still very much enjoyed it. I've never read a fantasy series like it before and I was totally hooked on the business and gangster side of the warring clans. I could easily see some big Asian names play the main roles and I'd be 100% interested in watching it. There's a lot of teeth here, and I think Lee does a great job mixing action, dialogue, prose and internal character's thoughts to provide a compelling trilogy.
A solid ending to the Greenbone Saga, with my only quibble being just how much time passes in the third installment (which I do understand, as a narrative choice to truly show the legacy of decisions- I feel like the alternate
The worldbuilding continues to shine. I do think reading via audiobook means I missed out on some world maps, but you can guess the comparative context for Espenia, Egutan, and the Uiewan Islands (again, because audiobook my spellings are likely inaccurate). Jade goes global, and with it lines of commerce, alliances, and backroom dealings.
