meh...... too much thinking about sex in this book. Any counselor would seriously consider labeling Sookie as a woman with an addiction, but I've heard the series gets better after this book, so I will slog on. Some funny bits, but enough to redeem the bad writing? meh.....

I love this series, fun, campy and Sookie is a force to be reckoned with as she deals with Eric and Bill, who is a real Ass in this book...I love the character of Alcide, the Were, hope to read more about him...& ...the continuing saga which i hope never ends..on to the next book!

Very readable, easy to follow.

I love this series. This particular installment bring up the whole life never goes quite how you think it will. It is the beginning of the series fall down the rabbit hole. Be on the look out for viking march hares.

I love how Mrs. Harris makes the rabbit hole just where you always wanted to be.

Randy Sookie's at it again, rubbing up against pretty much any supernatural male around. Also, why in the world is she expecting the guy she's currently bonking to pay for her house improvements? Not happy with a heroine like that. And then she makes a comment that it's incomprehensible for an
Show More
American that the "bad guys" would use torture to get what they want. OK, I can take an uneducated, randy heroine, but this is the point where she stops being silly and becomes stupid. I can't take stupid. From now on, I guess I'll have to revel in her getting beaten up by the bad guys (like she does all the time).

Sookie goes walkabout again... finds out some unpleasant things about vampires and so forth.

It sort of feels like it's meant to be the end of the series, or maybe the author is getting tired of it all. (There's at least one more book to come though.) That said... the story is better than the
Show More
previous one I think.

I've also worked out what it is: I quite dislike the main character. She's a little too reactive rather than proactive, she's said to be intelligent but ignorant but doesn't make the right sort of mistakes for that to my mind - she comes across as stupid and rather erudite instead.

She's also sexually naïve, and states so up front, but in a way that Laurell K. Hamilton manages that journey to sexually active and adventurous whilst pullnig me (at least) along with Anita's life, Sookie's life is making me say "Oh, come on!" and like shaking her.

If I hadn't have enjoyed the first one I wouldn't have bought 2-4 all together and wouldn't be reading book 4 at all. Since I own it I'll read book 4, and I hope it's a significant improvement.

Another great, engaging book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. My favorite, and by favorite I mean the most horrible, fashion moment for Sookie is when she dresses up to go to the vampire bar and she wears a strapless dress that has sleeves the slip on separately. Ugh. I can't decide if the author
Show More
wants Sookie to look trashy/WT because she lives in a small southern town or if the author is just plain clueless.

I still love the humor and Vampire Eric but I'm over Vampire Bill at this point. I thought he was a complete ass in this book. I really liked the intro of the Were society and the character of Alcide - he was a sweetie. On to book number four!

’m voraciously going through the Southern Vampire Mysteries series, if you can’t tell by now. This weekend, I finished Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 3). The change of scenery and the introduction of werewolves was refreshing in this book, but Bill’s fall from grace was not. To
Show More
say I was disappointed in his actions is an understatement.

This third book seems more like a soap opera than a mystery novel. Even though the mystery is still there, it’s clear that the focus of the book are character interactions and reactions to what happens. I liked the book, but I’d rank this as the weakest one so far from the series.

Sookie is asked once again to use her gifts to help the vampires find one of their own who has been kidnapped. Yes another kidnapping; only this time it is her own vampire Bill that has been taken. Or has he?

Is it possible Bill has decided to leave Sookie for another woman, another dead woman.
Either way Bill has disappeared and Sookie has decided that no matter how or why he left her, she was going to find him. Whether she would wrap her arms about him in a loving embrace, or to tear his throat out with her bare hands, she wasn't sure. But she was sure she had to find him.

In the mean time there was a new temptation for Sookie. A very tall, green eyed, good looking temptation. Not to mention the ever increasingly persistent Eric. Would Sookie leave Bill? Can their relationship survive temptations, secrets, unfaithfulness, torture, attempted murder, actual murder, rape, abuse, and just a good old fashioned beating? Only time will tell, as Sookie's gonna need some time to heal her many wounds, not to mention her heart, before she can decide if Bill is still the one she wants to be with, or if its all over for good.

Another fast paced, entertaining and action packed book to sink your teeth into.

I will admit that coming into the series I had presuppositions because I had watched the TV series, but I thought it was going to be localized, all in the small town, with Sookie finally finding men she can deal with so obviously she has a lot of options. My definition of "a lot" of options were
Show More
Bill, Sam and Eric. After the excursion to yet ANOTHER kingdom and the inclusion of yet ANOTHER supe who just desperately wants to jump Sookie's bones, yeah, this series is getting annoying. But I love Anna Paquin so I must finish the books to enjoy the TV series (it'd irk me otherwise), and unlike a lot of people I actually find Eric endearing. Book Eric. Show Eric is cute so far, but has yet to display the redeeming qualities I've seen in the books. So, the saga continues.

Club Dead, the third book in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries, begins with trouble in paradise for psychic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend Bill. Bill has been wrapped up in a secret project and Sookie feels pushed aside when he leaves town, not even telling her his
Show More
destination. Soon however, Sookie finds out he's in trouble and the dangerous vampires he is involved with - as well as news of the new female in his life - drives Sookie to track Bill down.

This book provided a nice change from predictability in that Sookie was cast more in the role of rescuer rather than damsel in distress (although she did wind up in peril eventually). I liked the addition of new characters and the development of some that have lingered in the background a bit and I think that one of Harris' greatest strength in this series is her characters. Sookie is a strong and likable heroine and even when the reader doesn't agree with her actions or decisions, she is still a character to root for.

I may be in the minority among fans of the genre, but personally, I like paranormal romance books for the paranormal more than the romance. I like the involvement of vampires, werewolves, psychics and shape-shifters. Also, it is the mystery aspect, more than the love stories, that has kept me interested in this series and I remain intrigued as to where Sookie's adventures will lead her next.

The third in the true blood series.
Sookie, the main character appears to be turning into daisy duke more and more with each of the books. for someone who has never had a boyfirend prior to getting in with Bill she does appear to be attractive to everyone, human, vampire and were.
I think that you
Show More
have to understand that this is supposed to be a light book. when you take it in that way it is a good romp through the undead in america. from this point in the series I would say that it is going to consist of stories where something happens, sookie gets asked or draged in to help, gets beat up, has a cheep thrill and then goes home the winner.
I can only wait to see if book 4 proves me wrong

Plotwise I found Club Dead weaker than the first two Sookie Stackhouse novels. The story builds around Sookie lusting after various men, various men lusting after Sookie and Sookie loosing consciousness in every other chapter. Luckily, the book was quite a bit sexier and funnier than the previous
Show More
parts, which made it a pleasurable read despite the lack of a proper plot. Still, I hope in the future the writer is more focused on the actual story and characterization and less on Sookie's libido.

This alternative reality has great potential, and so far the series has been entertaining enough to keep reading it farther. It should be interesting to see what happens next, now that Sookie has decided to take time out from the vampires.

Sookie Stackhouse, local barmaid and telepath, is back and in the middle of another supernatural mystery. Her boyfriend Vampire Bill is contacted by the Vampire Queen and sent on a mission but he goes missing in another vampires territory. Sookie has no choice but to go and look for him despite
Show More
some unsettling news passed on from Eric and Pam about Bill's activities.

Helping Sookie is new character Alcide Herveaux who is a werewolf introducing more shifters and weres into the supernatural mix. They have to pretend to be a couple to infiltrate the vampires "Club Dead" in Mississippi to find out details of what has happened to Bill, but the chemistry flies for real. Too bad Alcide has a shifter ex fiance who has moved on to another that Alcide is still very much ung up on. In time though who knows what will happen between them.

A great addition to the series. These books just keep getting better and better. I really like Eric Northman and warmed to Alcide as well. I am not sure how much longer I give the relationship between Sookie and Bill after the events of this book and it will be interesting to see who she hooks up with next.

Finishing this book meant another late night for me because even though I was tired, I just couldn't put it down. I found the tone of this book to be a bit different from the first two in the series. In the first two, Sookie is desperate to find love and acceptance and eventually finds that in
Show More
Bill. While she may get injured or face tremendous danger, she knows (and the readers know) that Bill is there to look after and ultimately take care of her. This time around, though, while she's still in life-threatening danger, Bill may or may not be there after all. It's disconcerting for both Sookie and the reader.

Added to that, we're introduced to a world with other shape shifters, werewolves, kings and queens of the vampire world and so much more. Ms. Harris has created an amazing world that feels every bit as real as anything else you will find on TV or in other books. Even though there is much that is quite fascinating in the world Ms. Harris created, what makes this a truly compelling read is the fact that Sookie must face what millions of other women face in their lives - the possibility of a cheating lover/spouse/significant other - as well as what to do about the situation. Suddenly, her supernatural life has taken quite a normal turn of events.

Her pain and confusion about this turn of events is all the more real to the reader because of the time and effort spent during the first two books building up their relationship and love for each other. Ms. Harris could have had Sookie wallow in her pain, misery and doubt, but it is a testament to how much Sookie has grown as a character that she not only stands up for herself but takes things into her own hands and resolves the issue in a way that is best for her.

This book took me even less time to finish than the first two. I've already resigned myself that I will be finishing the series before starting anything else. I'm having fun, though, reading through them. They are a perfect summertime read. I'm anxious to see what else life has in store for Sookie, to see if she ever gets her happily ever after, whoever it may be, and if she can find the acceptance and love she so desires and deserves.

Love triangle with a twist. How long does it take Sookie to decide what to do with her "life" - were/vampire... She does seem to be less and less able to deal with her life as the books progress. I find myslef unable to put the books down in wonder about what will happen next. I am reading Sookie
Show More
at the rate of one book per day and at this rate will be left wondering still when I reach the end of the currently written stories. Great series - on to book four...

Book three in the Southern Vampire Series, it had a few other books to live up to. Let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. Club Dead is a faced paced, romantic-action-mystery-supernatural thriller that will keep you on your toes, and will have you fall in love with every character.

First, we see
Show More
Bill, the calm dependable vamp in Sookies life. We also see Eric, Bill's boss, and his two friends, Pam and Chow. Chow is a new oriental vampire that also works (with Pam) for Eric. The guy on the scene is Alcide, who is awesome. He's a werewolf who's sworn to help Sookie as she does some out of town investigative work.

Alcide had to have been my most favourite part of the book, and I really hope that he shows up in the future - and hopefully not just as a buddy. He's an excellent character that treat's Sookie like the princess she is.

Read this book, you will like it... if you're over 18, of course. It is "one of those" romance's!

I usually don't read vampire books for the same reasons I don't read romance novels. However, I liked the first two books in this series. This book is where I started not to like it as much. It seems she breaks up with her boyfriend so she can spend more time thinking about other men. Also there
Show More
started to be too many subplots. I was fine with the one main plot; the extras just seemed to prolong the books.

another fun, quick read. Best read in order, though. and preferably listened to on CD

I liked this one more than the last — maybe because there was less Bill? I have to confess that I find myself rooting against him. I think I like Sookie better with just about anyone else… Sam, Alcide (more of him, please!), even Eric. Sookie does well fending for herself in this one.

Great! This series keeps getting better and better. There are still a few grammar issues that bug me, but they are not nearly as bad as before. I really enjoy this series now.

This book is an improvement on the earlier books in the series; the main character, Sookie Stackhouse, is definitely developing nicely. The ending in particular is interesting because it doesn't just reset the series to the status quo that the book started at. Very enjoyable, and a fast read;
perhaps too fast, since my local library never has the next book in the series available when I finish!

Great addition to the Sookie books. Book 3 introduces the were community, specifically Alcede. The addition of the weres adds to Sookie's story. Not only is Sookie involved in vamp politics, now she is knee-deep in the supe community. The storyline between Alcede and Sookie is great. She starts to
Show More
see what her life could be without Bill. This book marks a major turning point in Sookie and Bill's relationship.

Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic barmaid from tiny Bon Temps, Louisiana, was surprised when her vampire boyfriend, Bill Compton, announced that he had to go away for a while to do a job for the "queen of Louisiana." Sookie didn't even know that Louisiana had a queen, and she was doubly perturbed at
Show More
Bill's sudden aloofness and secrecy. But weeks after he left, she still hadn't heard anything from him. And then Eric Northman, the ancient Nordic vampire who controlled "area 5" of Louisiana's vampire population, appears and tells Sookie that Bill has disappeared and she'll have to use all her telepathic and diplomacy skills to infiltrate a place known as Club Dead, chief hangout of the supernatural population in Jackson, Mississippi and try to snatch Bill back, out from under the very nose of the vampire King of Mississippi himself. Finding out that Bill's disappearance includes an old girlfriend only adds to Sookie's worries.

Ok, this is a totally silly series of books, but they are very amusing and terrific escapism. I'm really getting a kick out of this series, but I was a bit distressed to see the direction the author seems ready to take her leading lady.
