The art style changed in the last volume, and now two volumes later I think I still prefer the old style. The current art is perfectly fine on its own but seems simpler in comparison to the old style. The story was so good though (despite a bit of a slow start), I got really caught up in Molly's

arc.

The Lumberjanes get a new counselor to teach them knots – Seafarin’ Karen! (the rhyming is important). She’s stranded as a landlubber because some selkies stole her boat…but also she has a deep dark secret! The girls help her get her boat back, which of course involves portals, dinos, etc.

Back to business! Although still not quite as good since the departure of Noelle Stevenson, this volume rectifies a few of the problems I had with Volume 5. April spends a bit of time apologizing for how she shut out the other girls during the mermaid debacle, and I can’t help but think that’s purposely meta. The girls are more evenly distributed here, with each one contributing to the solution to their problem. The story is also once again connected to the Bear Woman and the overall mythology of the camp. I enjoyed the new counselor, but I’m also fine with her leaving at the end of the volume, Defense-Against-the-Dark-Arts-teacher-style.

Zany as ever, this collection introduces a new counselor (who happens to be a werewolf named Seafarin' Karen) and a a new group of supernatural nuisances, the selkies. The girls are determined to get a new badge and in order to do that the five of them need to work together on the sea. Once they

find out more about the mysterious whirpools and and figure out what the selkies are up to, they just might be able to make a go of their badge. My only beef is that it looks like there is a new illustrator and things look a little off.

I never thought I'd say it, but I may be breaking up with the Lumberjanes. The magic of the first few volumes has been missing in the last two and the cartoony art style of this arc adds to the feeling that the 'Janes are headed closer to the mainstream. I still think that Lumberjanes, as a whole,
Show More
is an important comic for kids, but it was better when it wasn't so blatantly trying to be "for kids".

This is a very uneven series, mostly due to the rotating writers and artists. I enjoyed the story in this volume more than the last, but the art seemed a bit amateurish. For instance, there were major problems with perspective as a boat anchored offshore looked sometimes a quarter-mile away and at

other times just ten feet. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing this team sticking around and bringing some consistency to a title I want to like.

This is the first of the series that I've come across. It has a stamp on the cover that says it's a New York Times bestselling series. I don't get why but it must be working for lots of other readers. The story, about a group of girls at camp, is entirely predictable and the artwork isn't that

great.

This is the sixth volume in the Lumberjanes series and was an improvement over volume 5. I enjoyed the storyline better. This artist was a vast improvement over the artist that did the bulk of Vol 5, but I still didn’t like it was much as the original first few volumes.

I enjoyed the storyline
Show More
involving the selkies, the werewolf, and the traveling back into the dinosaur dimension. I still didn’t feel like the storyline was tight as it should be. Also, although I enjoyed this illustrator better than the one that did the bulk of volume 5, I am still not a huge fan of the new illustration style.

Overall this was another okay but not wonderful volume in the Lumberjanes series. I am going to read one more volume in this series and if it is as lukewarm as these last couple have been I think I will give it up.

I thought this one was great. I loved their adventure with Seafarin' Karen and the reappearance of the bear woman. Also Selkies! There are not enough books about Selkies in my opinion. The girls are still awesome!

I'm now getting used to the cartoony illustrations... although I still miss the original ones. Sigh. This was a good story as well where the girls counselor is a werewolf and are figuring out a plan to get her boat back from selkies (don't ask). As usual lots of adventure and the girls finally
