Really enjoyed this. Not sure if it's because I watched the movie recently and really enjoyed it, so this is hitting me in my "more of the same" hindbrain or if it's because I haven't read a traditional American-style comic book in a while so reading this scratched a satisfying itch I didn't know I

have. It's a good story and enjoyable to read, I'm really not trying to damn this comic with faint praise. But I do think I may have enjoyed it more because I read it at this particular moment in time.

A tight group of mercenaries share a common characteristic: they are unable to die. Their leader Andy hasn't been able to die for more than six thousand years. They are not quite immortal though. The idea is not new; it has been explored peripherally in Neil Gaiman's Sandman and the Highlander TV

show. This extended lifespan and its consequences is explored intelligently with the soldier of fortune subgenre.

A simple concept executed well. A modern-day band of mercenaries has a big old secret: they're immortal. And they have just discovered a new member of their rare breed. But one of the mortals they work with has sussed out the secret and sells it to a rich and powerful man who wants to figure out

how to bottle immortality.

Death and destruction. Death and friendship. Death and betrayal. Death and love. But mostly death.

Fast-paced, funny, and violent with quickly endearing characters.

I'm eager to see movie adaptation coming to Netflix this week, and -- oooooooh! -- Volume 2 is scheduled to come out this September!

(Minor peeve: The lead character is referred to as both Andronika and Andromache in different chapters. It seemed more like an editing error than a story detail.)

Not really understanding all the disdain this is getting heaped on it from the reviews I've read. Honestly, I really liked this one. Good story, well-paced, and an interesting concept.

Is the art perfect? No. But it works for the story for the most part, and god knows I've seen a lot worse.

And,

while I know Goodreads is about the books, not the adaptations, I gotta say, the Netflix movie follows this storyline pretty much beat for beat.

Definitely reading the next volume.

Decent enough take on mercenaries that can live forever. But why do they have to be mercenaries?

This is story about people that are living around us but are markedly different - youngest is 200 years old and oldest member of part over six millennia. They are warriors by trade blessed by the exquisitely long life-spans. Even after hundreds of years their immortality puts them into very

specific niche - if you cannot die then most logical profession is one where risks are high (for mere mortals) and rewards are great.

And so we find our motley group of immortal mercenaries taking new assignments in modern age - one assignment too many that will endanger them all.

So if you look at the story itself it is nothing new - it is standard story of warrior band facing the impossible odds. If we want to be true all sagas and myths are more or less the same. But that does not deduct from the experience (at least for me :)).

Story concentrates on the price of immortality (very much in vein of Highlander) and I especially like the twist on the immortality itself. Wont spoil it here but it is an interesting twist on the subject.

Recommended to all fans of action and adventure.

Badass.
Excellent story telling.

Hard-boiled leader of team that can't seem to die...

“…I’m doing this all wrong. Look, I’ll start. My name is…”
“Don’t. Do not tell me your name.”
“Why not?”
“Saves me the trouble of forgetting it.”
