This was a fun romance! Quinn and August were sweet together. I appreciated how playful they could be together and how they both wanted to support each other and not pressure each other. My one quibble was that they could be a pair of drama llamas. It seemed like one of them was always having a

minor crisis of faith about something, and as soon it got resolved it was the other's turn. None of their concerns felt unreasonable to me, but it felt like there were a lot and that Quinn and August were passing the issue baton between them for most of the novel.

Description

Quinn Byrne is rare even among fire elementals, with her powers hard-wired into her arousal. She can't touch herself without setting the sheets ablaze. With an incendiary sex drive, Quinn's dating life is dryer than the desert that surrounds her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. She'd give anything to have a normal romantic relationship, even settle for a water elemental with a frat boy personality. But she knows one thing for sure: human men are out of the question. No exceptions. Not even if the guy is trying to woo her with delicious ice cream.August Nord is new to town, building a business that involves things staying cold. His whole life has been one, long icy stretch, until a fiery redhead saunters into his ice cream shop. Quinn seduces him with her freckled cheeks and take-no-shit attitude. Plus, she's the hottest accountant he's ever met, and a small business owner would be stupid not to hire a professional to review their finances, right? August has a secret that should keep him far away from her, but temptation overwhelms both of their good senses. As the two approach their attraction with wary steps, the sparks flying between them are all too real. Quinn struggles to keep her supernatural skills from hurting the first man she's let herself lust over in years, all while August doubts his ability to build something long lasting after so many failed attempts in his past. When fire meets ice cream, will passion turn into a melted mess or dessert flambé?… (more)

Oh, I like! I started reading in a bad mood (not really to do with the book); I was annoyed at the present tense style, and the silly names, and the insta-lust (boring. Even here, boring). But the story and the characters caught me up very quickly - I really like Quinn and August, and they are

richly complex and interesting people. For very good reason, they suppress their mutual lust...kinda, not very well and not very long. The sex scenes are intense, though not frequent, and they were unexpectedly hot for me. I generally skim those scenes, but here their connection is at least as much emotional/mental as it is physical, and each scene is important to the story. The world is fascinating (here and now, but our protagonists (and a bunch of other characters) are hiding some very interesting secrets), there are lots more characters with clear depths to them (and the next story is set up in the epilogue), and...drat it, I didn't need _another_ author to binge on! I want to read her other one too - there's an excerpt in the back. There are a few typos, fewer than I'm used to seeing (I'll tell the author/publisher about them). Nice!

Fire Magic and Ice Cream is the first in the Casual Magic series of paranormal romances. Quinn Byrne is a fire elemental. Unlike her sisters, whose powers are tied to anger, her powers are connected to her sexual desire. This makes relationships complicated: burning up the sheets literally is not

very romantic. When she meets August Nord, the owner of a new ice cream shop, she wonders if he would be worth the risk.

August has recently moved to Phoenix from Alaska. When a fiery red-head enters his shop he hopes his icy life is going to warm up.

This is a fun romance. The characters, including all the main characters’ friends and family, are interesting, and the dialogue is funny. The premise of modern day elementals, descended from Elemental Gods and Goddesses, is intriguing. I was disappointed in how the author treated the magical aspects of the story. The elementals seem to only look at their powers as something to be controlled. The plot turns on the main characters learning if they can control their powers and make a relationship work. The lack of a reason, or use, for these magical powers turned what could have been an interesting fantasy romance into a normal, if entertaining, contemporary romance. Some fairly explicit sexual content, but not excessive.

I entered into this giveaway on a whim because of its peculiar title. Who doesn't want to read a book called Fire Magic & Ice Cream? With such an engaging cover, the inside definitely matched the outside. This romance featured the unlikely courtship of a fire elemental and an ice elemental. My

favorite part of this entire book was the hero owned an ice cream parlor and it was a key element to the story. I was pleasantly surprised by the chemistry, unique premise, and general fun throughout the book. I honestly didn't know what to expect and this novel was such a fun ride. The only minor dings were that it plateaued near the end and it felt a little stagnant without any new action. Otherwise, this was a fun paranormal romance to dive into. Thanks so much to Library Thing and City Owl Press for this opportunity. I was definitely craving some ice cream for the entire duration of my reading experience.

This is a pretty good book! I really liked the world building and the heirs of the Elemental Gods. Quinn is a very strong heroine with insecurities to overcome. August is hunky and caring man who puts the welfare of others above his own. His being loyal to a fault was slightly off putting, but

overall I enjoyed the characters. Quinn’s sisters are hilarious and I would love to read their stories. The chemistry was great and the storyline was original. This is a very good start to a series! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

"He's not as defective as me. But still, I'm the one he wants. The one he's patiently working with."

Quinn Byrne has spent her whole life not letting her fire powers get out of control, which is unfortunate when her powers are linked to her arousal. What she needs is someone who can counter her heat

with ice. Perhaps the sexy, viking-esq owner of a local ice cream shop. If only she could have her fun without melting everything in sight...

This book was contemporary sprinkled in with some paranormal elements (magic powers based on elemental gods.)

Really cute, little steamy. Not a bad start to a series!

The beginning of the story is a bit slow. Yes, I know, there is drama at once, but then the storyline is too slow. But luckily, at about one fourth of the book the story speeds up. So, if you want to stop before that, don't!
The beginning is also quite explicit. You should know that, before you

Nonetheless: fun to read!
