A truly brilliant take on mythology. For anyone who has ever been a fan of the religions of yore you'll be enthralled with Applegate's world of aliens and gods. My favorite series when it first came out and still one of my favorite series. The beginning of the first book is a bit difficult to get
Show More
into, but once you get past that it is simply phenomenal. Applegate creates an entire world within Everworld while drawing enough from our own world so as not to entirely alienate or confuse the audience.

I find that this book deserves a four, because it captivates the readers mind immediately in the first few pages. I think that this book will really be a great book for 7th graders to read.

The book is part one in a series of 12 novels. The Everworld series follows David, April, Christopher and Jalil as they are pulled from the world as we know it to Everworld. Everworld is basically an alternate universe created by all of the ancient gods and goddesses
Show More
(greek/roman/norse/egyptian/aztec/celtic etc). The gods also brought along human companions to serve them in the new universe. The four teenagers are brought to Everworld by April's half-sister Senda(she is typically refered to as Senna though). Senna is a witch with the ability of making a gateway between the two worlds, she is pulled into Everworld to create a doorway back into our world. The gods and goddesses want to leave Everworld as it is slowly being taken over by a foreign god Ka Anor who eats gods/goddesses and other immortals. The series then follows the teenagers as they try to escape Everworld and how they find themselves caught in the middle of the conflict in Everworld.

Anyone who even slightly enjoys mythology will likely love this series. Each book is deep seeded with mythology undertones and it explores most of the ancient religions of the world (excluding most of the asian ones though, which to me was a poor choice). Besides the mythology in the book it also just deals with teens and teen issues like dating, and fitting in at school. It also shows co-operation as David, April, Christopher and Jalil were not friends in the real world, they all come from different social cliques. Overall I would say that this book is a must read for any teen who likes mythology, and even if they don't after reading this book they just might.

Not bad. But it never inspired me to read the entire series. Young teens are the target audience.

I remember that I really liked these, but it's been a VERY long time ago. So, even though I can't remember everything about them i'm going to rate it a 4... because I'm assuming that I liked it a lot.

A little fun, though I never got over the wonky-ness. The idea is intriguing, a Viking world filled with magic, but big parts of it might have been improved; I detested Senna for obliging David when they'd hardly known each other, the inciting incident is weird at best, and none of the characters
Show More
are very endearing.

Ew. I thought it was awfully gory. I guess teens tend to have stronger stomachs than I do, but I'd still avoid giving this to anyone under 15. (I don't mean ban it; I just mean don't buy it for them.) I'm more like the character April - I appreciate family, and tenderness, and vegetables. However,
Show More
it'd probably be a great series for a teen who spends too much time with Mature video games. I will not read the rest of the series.

I had read this before. I knew the part about the Trojan horse. One character asks "Who would be that dumb?" And the other answers. "Not dumb maybe. Just naïve."

A nice start to the series.

I wasn't sure if I want to keep going. The end of Animorphs was great if you shredded the last chapter. The
Show More
last chapter felt like a mean practical joke.

So I Googled this series. The reviews state the ending is unsatisfactory. It just sort of ends - no resolution. I don't want to get burned again. So I'm not going to keep going.

I loved this book. I'm so glad I bought this series at a library book sale. Something strange happens to David, Amy, Jalil, and Chris one day. They find themselves going from one place to another place.

They try to figure out which one is real, or if they are in a dream. David and the others all go
Show More
back to the 'real world' and start to discuss things. I found it entertaining as they would be asleep in Everworld and fall asleep and find themselves back in their world.

Are they able to find Senna? Do they need to rescue her? Is she the one causing all this? Is she the 'witch' Loki speaks about? Those are some of the questions you ask yourself in this book.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.5 Stars. In reality, it might be a little lower, but I think the nostalgia of this being the first real series I read as a kid, nearly 18 years ago, is making me biased.
