Magazine (paper), 1939

Brief description:

Plebe Cadet Peter Grayle and Yearling John Harkford come from South Carolina families that have had bitter bloody feuds since before the Civil War. However, this is now 1901 at the military academy and they have revived the feud. They determine to "settle" the matter with pre-dawn fisticuffs at Battery Knox. Both are severely hurt, ending up in the infirmary. The brawl leads to their dishonorable disharge from the academy.

Grayle wishes to become army officer in the family tradition and determines to gain a commission through the ranks. He enlists and with the aid of his congressman is assigned to a Texas regiment that is forming up to leave for the Philippines. Grayle's brief sojourn at West Point has him shine over the country recruits and he is soon appointed as a company sergeant.

They soon ship out for the Philippines to deal with the insurrection. And who should also show up in the Philippines, but John Harkford. The feud is not yet resolved....
