Franklin books do a great job of teaching various lessons, values, and morals to young readers. In this book readers learn about the responsibilities and commitment it takes to have a pet. In the book Franklin discusses why he would and wouldn't choose different animals for pets and how he came to

the decide which pet is best for him. I love how Bourgeois describes every step so that young readers can understand and learn about thought process. Following steps and ideas to make a decision.
