Just gorgeous, hillarious ending. Great simple text for young children of ESL/SEn kids.

Once there was a hungry hen who ate and ate and grew bigger and bigger. Once there was also a hungry fox, who waited and waited because the hen looked tastier and tastier every day as she got bigger and bigger. Finally the day comes when the fox can't wait any longer, but when the fox and hen meet,

A very silly story with charming illustrations by Caroline Jayne Church. Thick black outlines combined with simple compositions and a short text make this a great choice for storytimes that skew a bit younger, although a toddler's sense of humor may not be developed enough to really get the ending. I think this could also work well for storytelling - it has a very folktale-esque feel to it.

Used for Chickens on the Loose Storytime - Terrific Ts and Preschool 2/2/2010 and Family 2/4/2010.

I guess I just have to get over my fears of the parents at storytime freaking out because I'm reading about animals eating other animals (circle of life).

The hungry hen loves to eat, and eat she does. Even in the face of danger she manages to save herself by eating.

There was a hen he was always hungry. She ate and ate and also grew. Every morning the fox would see the hen getting bigger and bigger. He said he will wait some more so the hen would get bigger. Finally he went to go eat the hen but in the end the hen ate him. I love how this story ends its very

I'd be willing to bet that little kids like this - and that is what matters. However, although I enjoyed the style of the illustrations, I saw the ending coming from the beginning, and wasn't able to find anything special in the concept or text.

This hungry hen is very very hungry. So hungry in fact, that it literally gobbled up his predator. There wasn't much to this book and I wasn't the biggest fan, I did however, anticipate a different ending. I assumed the hen would be too big for the fox and they would share the hen's food, guess I

was looking for a happy ending.
