Lots of good stuff going on in this TPB. Olive's story gets even more twisty and turney as she looks for the who and what and why of her mother. We also have Damian Wayne at the Academy, although it's only for a brief moment.

There was also more of Tristan's story line (not my favorite one, but

definitely interesting). And then there was Maps. She had a pretty good TPB too (meeting Red Robin amongst other things). With every page I loved Maps' character more and more. She seems like such a unique character to me and caring and funny as well.

I got this galley through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment.

Gotham Academy Vol 2: Calamity I found this volume quite a bit more interesting than the first one but not quite as much fun. It's much more serious, what with Olive's family history  starting to come into play more. The mystery of Olive's family seems central to the plot but her group of curious

friends keep the tone a little light-hearted.
I really enjoy supportive all the friends are. Especially Maps. She has got be my favorite. Her song at the beginning of the first issue in this volume was adorable! They definitely keep a little mystery surrounding some other characters and I hope that their backgrounds get explored further in the following volumes, but for now I'm happy to be digging deeper into what Calamity is all about.

Still having trouble following the storyline as many times, the text doesn't reflect what we are seeing. Still liked it though.

One of the best comics I've read in a long time. But then, I have a definite weakness for feisty female detectives, so maybe it's not a surprise I loved it.

I want to like this book. There's a nice guest appearance by Damian Wayne early in the first half, but the rest of the book suffers from his absence and a lame guest appearance by Red Robin. Maps is the lone standout among the regular characters. She tries to carry the book with her inexhaustible

energy and enthusiasm, but even she can't do it alone.

Fun second volume of the series. More supernatural creatures, including a werewolf and a half bat half boy (not to be confused with Batman). I enjoy reading this series and plan on continuing it.

First things first, let me just say this: I need more of Damian Wayne
*sighs*
Now off to the rest of it;

Let me get this straight, Olive's mother is this fire creating monster called Calamity who just loved to burn things and that suddenly appears again even though her mom has just died.
And when they
Show More
track her down it turns out it's just the teacher Olive has been spilling her guts to (and so did her mother apparently) and he was just pretending to be Calamity AND he kidnapped Kyle JUST to set Olive off and make her TURN into Calamity so he can talk to her, but when she does so she simply burns him off? chases him away? scare him with her flames? (God and Olive only know)

So now what? Calamity lives inside of Olive? She burrows her body to go full psychotic and burn buildings then gives it back?
I need to understand!

Ps: I'm pretty sure a certain redheaded, green-eyes guy who wears sunglasses all the time has a crush on a certain handsome Asian tennis player *wink wink*

Honorable mentions to:
Red Robin: he was bloody amazing out there!!
Clayface: That psycho was actually fun to be around for a while!

Scooby Doo, supernatural aspects. Possible appeal for Buffy fans. Good female friendships.
