About

This is part one of a three part series. Daniel is a very successful second term congressman who has amassed a private fortune of millions and who has aspirations for greatness. There is, however, one secret lurking around in his closet that he is desperate to keep locked away. That secret is that he is Gay.
He wishes to keep that revelation a secret for two reasons. First, his doting parents would never understand. They are waiting for him to settle down, get married, and give them grand kids. They are themselves very homophobic as is the rest of his family and friends. He couldn't imagine them finding out.
Secondly, he has aspirations of running for president. He is only too well aware that a black man or a woman could run for the oval office. But a gay man? He feels that the timing is not right, and yet, all the factors to make a successful run for President are starting to fall into place. He is an extremely popular congressman, and he has the financial backers and political connections to make it happen if he so chooses. But he wonders if his life will become an open book when his enemies and rivals begin to examine and snoop into every area of his life.
Normally he might be willing to take a chance, but there is a new development on the horizon. One of his admirers, Andrew, is also Gay, and he secretly longs to have a love relationship with the man of his dreams. After they become involved, Andrew tries to persuade Daniel that the timing may be right for a Gay president, and that there is no need for him to hide in the closet any more. Peter, his campaign manager staunchly disagrees, and he has the poll numbers to prove it. When asked if they would support a gay man running for president, a majority of voters, both republicans and even democrats, are very much opposed.
Andrew dismisses the findings, and feels that Daniel is someone who can break new ground and change old opinions. Andrew feels that the pollsters are wrong, and that Daniel would win even if he declared the truth and stepped out of the closet.
Daniel is very much in love with Andrew, and torn between keeping his secret and letting it out. He knows his homophobic family and friends would never understand, and he is certain that the pollsters are right in their assertion that the country is not ready to elect a gay president. But Andrew persists, backing his lover into a corner and demanding that he run as a gay man. The storm clouds begin to form over the democratic national convention when it begins to leak out that their golden boy might be "limp wristed."
The tabloids are having a field day, and Daniel's once staunch supporters are beginning to act really antsy. They believe that the rumor of Daniel being gay will deny them the presidency and hand it to a republican.
Daniel is forced to make a decision, and that is to back down and exit the race, or admit his secret and run despite his orientation. His inner voice tells him to listen to his best friend and lover Andrew, but everything is now on the line.
