Sam has been living in Dallas for fifteen years and working as a "legal thief" ie. he repossesses cars. A TV news broadcast describes a serial killer rampage in his old home town back in Alabama. Sam's brother is the latest victim. Long estranged from home, his brother was the last of Sam's blood family. Wally was a shy, introverted, closet gay librarian. He'd never hurt anyone.
