Matty doesn't know why Édouard, the French-Canadian hockey star on their college team, has such a hate-on for him. Édouard was specifically scouted to be their team's enforcer - the muscle, the fighter, the defender, the guy whose job it is to pound the other team into submission. Yet in practice, the only one he seems to want to dominate is Matty.
And it turns out he doesn't only want to slam Matty into the the boards on the ice. He wants to do terrible things, unspeakable things, to the quick, small, sparrow-like athlete.
