Pichar is a game where there was only one rule—Do whatever it takes to win. The championship match is viewed by millions. There is a tradition whereby the winners parade around the arena, soaking up the adulation of the spectators. There is another secret tradition, known only to the players—the losing captain is taken by the victor, in front of both teams. Not all winners claim this right, but Jerol, the captain of the Cerrulian team, is known to be one such man. The goal is not to show pain while the winner takes him. Not to cry out. And definitely not to enjoy it. Cerrulia plays against Auralia in the final, and only one goal separates them. The Auralian captain, Toran, knows there’s more than the team’s honor at stake.
