About
A small town near the Rocky Mountains is waiting for people to move west and put them on the map, but a murder among the first settlers threatens everything. Set at the end of the 19th century, a former New England investigator who uses transcendentalist practices to solve crimes partners with his tuberculosis nurse, an inquisitive Catholic nun, to solve the murder.
As the deceptions and aggressions build, the investigator journals his experiences with natural mysticism to aid him in the case. The fact that he is gay and his nurse is spiritually astray opens them to a deeper understanding of the suspects’ unease and insecurities in a late-Victorian society they reluctantly brought with them to the West.
