One young man spends his days working in the family’s crab shack, dreaming of the world outside of his tiny South Carolina town, the other comes roaring in on the back of a motorcycle, with little clue of the social or cultural norms of the place he’s been sent to visit. All he knows is that his folks left here for a reason, one that still exists to this day, because interracial relationships are still frowned upon in this little community, even when one member of the relationship is mixed themselves. It’s a hard thing to get around, even with tact and secrecy, and Sage isn’t exactly known for either. When he loves, he loves hard and he wants the whole world to know about it, unfortunately, the one person Eugene doesn’t want to find out about it is his father, who is firmly opposed to any mixing of the races. It’s a fine line they walk, going behind his back, especially in a community when very little can be kept secret, but Eugene is willing as long as Sage follows one simple rule: Don’t let anyone see.
