Another triumph for Vasques, my only complaint being that this is a farewell and Johnny and Squee will soon be only memories.

SQUEE! is a graphic novel I keep coming back to again over the years. I swear I love everything I’ve ever laid eyes on by Jhonen Vasquez! Have you ever seen and loved that cartoon Invader ZIM? This is your man then – this is one of his comics. This black and white collection of SQUEE comics is

twisted and at moments sad but yet manages to be light and funny. Ask me how he does it – I do not know! SQUEE is a sweet scared little kid who experiences some crazy messed up shit. But it’s so awesome to tag along for the ride! For lovers of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac you will love SQUEE. If you haven’t read JTHM you must go buy it now or I will also die! I can never help myself when reading this graphic novel – my fingers itch for color pens or pencils and I just want to color and accent the pages – not that I ever do of course – but I have to slap my own hands to keep from doing it! There is a LOT of dialogue in these pages for what I would consider the typical graphic novels that I read – why let few words and a picture tell his story when Jhonen can cram as many words in a pane as he can possibly fit. If you like the darkly humorous stuff you have got to give this one a try! I’m only sad there isn’t any more!

Darker than dark view of boy (Todd/Squee) and his inner demons.... think an R-rated Calvin & Hobbs. For example, Todd is invited to a "play date" with Pedro... whose father happens to be the spawn of Satan. Graphics mimic the dark, sardonic tone. Very funny and appealing for the right audience: the

Poor little Squee LOL
Squee is a nervous little boy who lives in a frightening world. He is plagued by pretty much everything including strange adults, aliens from another world, and the crazy homicidal maniac who lives next door. 😜😜😜
Just like the rest of Jhonen Vasquez's comics this one is

beautifully drawn. No I wouldn't say beautiful... I would say dark. Yes very dark. As in all of his artwork Vasquez's disdain for the rest of humanity comes out in clear comedic form. The poor little protagonist views the outside world as exactly that and yearns to living a life of his own away from scary reality.
As the spin off of JTHM I think Vasquez did beautifully with the series. The artwork is the same as the original series and the irony is also on par with the original JTHM.
Anyone who likes Invader Zim or JTHM would love this series as well.
