We learn a _lot_ about Danny Brady here. About his past, and his present. The gamma is small and nasty (and he'd hate hearing that) - his crimes, foul though they are, feel like a two-year-old's tantrum ("Pay attention to Meeeee!"). This is partly because we never get to know any of the victims,

and partly because he seems to pick them quite randomly. The last one, Tony, we get to know a little - but we don't know him in any way other than as the gamma's prisoner; there's no connection with him under normal circumstances, and once it's over, he disappears again. So four stars for character development, but three for drawing the reader (at least, me) in to the story and making it important. Show Less
