Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly
This could have been the conventional type of romance. One which consists of an ‘accidental’ marriage that the pair decides to try to make real. It would have been good too. Instead, this author took what could have been a trite and silly fairy tale type
Show More
unbelievable romance and turned it into something more…something a little more real. Moreover, it is a lot better than the usual conventional themes.

Let’s face it, it you are reading a book like this you love romance and you may even be willing, like I am, to take yourself out of reality and throw all illusions of real-life into the wind. And I think this book actually takes that step back from reality and turns this into a book that is just a little more special.

We have, as I said, a sort of typical romance of accidental marriage. We have the perfect man, or what passes a perfect man offering to stay married for the idea of a strong partnership/marriage and father-hood. However, of course he wants more. However, not the way it seems we should be expecting. All along, he has had to persuade Megan that she was doing the right thing. You start thinking that he loves her and really does want this to go farther than a mere partnership. But, alas, this is not to be. However, the interesting part is just beginning when he sees the error of his ways.

What I did not see coming was just why Connor didn’t want love in his life, and to get to that point in the book the ride was a pretty interesting one.
The characters, while not 100% believable, are likable. The humor in the story is dry and well written and the emotional aspects are fairly believable. It was a short novel so things are not as developed as I would have liked. Nevertheless, for a quick, light, fun read I think that this will make for a good one.

Not my cup of tea. Could not relate to the characters, and the dialog felt stilted. DNF.

What started out as a night of a few drinks with friends, ends with Megan married to a Connor. And, to make an awkward situation worse, she doesn't remember anything when she wakes up in his bed the next morning. What Megan quickly catagorizes as a mistake, Connor isn't so quick to agree. So he
Show More
sets out to convince her otherwise...

It was a decent, short romance read. Good chemistry (especially that first morning after) but maybe a little too over the top for me at times. I guess Connor - while still likable - lost some of this attractiveness to me because he was trying too hard at times.

This should have been a 4-5 star read but there were a few draggy moments that pulled the rating down.

For the most part...this is a rather cute story about finding the love of your life when you aren't looking for it. The H/h meet in Vegas and wake up married...but that's just the
Show More
beginning.

Both characters have major hangups left over from childhood that has made forming permanent romantic relationships difficult (if not impossible). Watching them learn to trust and enjoy each other was a delight.

What started to feel flat for me was the constant effort by the heroine to "show her worst moments" so that she could run the hero off. It happened...two times to many for my personal enjoyment.

The other thing that pissed me off was the final Big Mis.:

WFT! I hate it...HATE it when a woman breaks up with a man in order to make him miss her. That is the dumbest fucking shit I have ever heard of! You need to learn to COMMUNICATE, bitch. If you are having issues but love the man...you better sit his ass down and explain to him your malfunction. But if your ass is dumb enough to break up with the man you love without explanation (so he can see what he's missing)...please expect that some other woman will recognize the prize you set free and snap him up!

So that whole scene with Caro doing the ex-gf thing of crying and being a total bitch in public to embarrass & hurt Megan was...unwelcome and total BS. I wanted to slap her and tell her that this was a learning experience for her. Next time put on your big girl panties and speak the fuck up.

So, the Big Mis. was a FAIL for me.

But DAMN I loved the ending! HAWT and romantic! Plus I love the fact that her back biting cousin and friends saw that gorgeous man in love with Megan.

Just okay. I wavered between 2 and 3 stars, but in the end I never really warmed up to Connor (who my brain refuses to equate with the guy on the cover--that just isn't him, I'm sorry) and I still am not sure I buy into his redemption at the end, so...2. Furthermore, I wanted more "fun" and
Show More
"flirty" as promised by the KISS line, and an opening scene in which the heroine is puking in a hotel toilet, in the midst of a prolonged bout of puking?--yeah, not so fun. Or flirty. It got better in parts, but then worse in other parts, leaving me with an ambivalent feeling toward the book as a whole. This was my first book by this author and the first I've read in Harlequin's new line; I'm definitely going to give both a second chance in the hopes that this one was just a one-off.

Another light, fun and flirty ebook that I got for free. Again, glad that I didn't know that it was a "Harlequin" as I would never have downloaded it and missed out. I was quite surprised at the depth of the characters that Ms. Kelly was able to provide and the storyline had me from page 1.

Cute as fuck. Also angsty. Loved all of it, but would have preferred it if the conflict - "this needs to be a marriage without dangerous emotions like love" - had been wrapped in different language. All the focus on the specific word "love" sucked all the subtlety out of it.

A fun, spicy romance. Formulaic? Yes. But that's pretty much what you get with a Harlequin. Still, if you're in the mood for a formula romance, this is a fun one.

The problem I have with this book is expectations. I had many. None of them were fulfilled.
When I read the summary for this book I was expecting a romantic version of a movie 'Hangover'. Megan wakes up in bed with hottie aka. Scott. They don't remember previous night and now they are married. How
Show More
did it happen? I expected a lot of funny & romantic flashbacks and voila HEA.
Unfortunately this is not what happens in Waking Up Married. The book is very... uneventful. I know Scott is a lawyer but I did not expect him to bore me to death. o.O
Quote from book:
"Neither one of us was looking for romance, but we ended up talking, and talking, and talking some more. One thing led to another and... well, here we are."

Fun read - with the overthinker mode of my brain turned off. Had romance a pretty predictable plotline. Not bad - but nothing entirely new or amazing.

STARS

Waking Up Married is from the New series Harlequin Kiss. So far this is the first book I have read from the series. I am going to read more before deciding what if anything is different from this line of books.

Waking Up Married is about two people that are scared to fall in love but want a
Show More
family. They meet in Vegas and are drinking and talking. Next thing Megan knows she is waking up in a hotel room sick. Tossing everything she had and a ring on her finger. She doesn't remember much except meeting Connor and talking.
Megan says she wants a divorce.

Connor did not realize how much she had drunk. He wants a family and not a love match. Megan had plans to be a mother through science. Connor than spends the next few months showing Megan how could a life they can have together.

Megan finally is convinced and then Connor has doubts that Megan really knows what the real Connor is like.

Thier is a lot of seductive action as Connor tries to use physical attraction to convince Megan about the future. Lots of love scenes. Megan and Connor have to face thier past relationship to find what they really need. Some humor.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review when I was done by Netgalley.

This one started out so good and then went off the rails a quarter of the way through. Ironicly, I really liked them at the start of the story. The chemistry was strong, the banter was sexy. I was into it, then they woke up married and it all went down hill.

Conner was suddenly overly compliant to
Show More
Megan's bizarre hesitance to share the news (that they were married) with her friends. While I'm sure there were believable reasons that could had explained her choices, none of them were given. It was just there, her choices and his compliance. Both seemingly coming out of nowhere, especially considering how they behaved at the start of the book. This sudden change feel out of character and worse contrived for the sake of creating tension and drawing out the story.

So I flounced. Which still makes me sad, because I was pulling for the Conner and Megan I met at the start of the book. Those two were fun and sweet. They made me believe that two people could hit it off even though they'd only just met. They made me laugh and want to see them have a Happy Ending. I just wish they had been in the rest of the story.

A predictable and recycled story? Yes.

But also funny, entertaining and very well written. I never pass up on a freebie like this, so of course I gave it a chance. I've been looking forward to HQN Kiss for a while now!

Both Megan and Connor are great characters. She is a smart, strong, independent
Show More
woman, but as much as she tries to put up a front that she doesn't want romance, you can tell that she is that kind of person.
And Connor, ugh - he's so blind to his own feelings I just wanted to smack him on the head repeatedly.
I loved their dynamic, they have a lot of chemistry.

The second half of the book is infinitely better in everything that the first. It's faster paced, and the characters really shine in it. The first half is just slow. The book has a lot of witty dialogue that made me laugh out loud at times. Good stuff.

Ultimately, I liked it. Do give it a chance, it's fairly short.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. I honestly wasn't expecting much. And I know that's horrible to say, but it's Harlequin, and my tastes tend to be a little off from their usual style. However, I think the fact that this was their new KISS line had a lot to do with my overall reaction to
Show More
the story, the characters and the flow.

First, let's talk story. This isn't a new plot. However, it's one of my favorites when done right and when fresh. I think Ms. Kelly managed both with this book, and I loved the small details that made this a unique take on an old storyline.

Now, characters. I love, love, love, love, loved Connor. Everything about him (except his idiocy). He was sweet and loyal and flirtatious and sexy and strong and funny and and and... And then there's Megan. She was basically everything I look for in a heroine, and from what I know of the KISS line, that's something that is a requirement, and I, for one, couldn't be happier. I can't stand weak, whiny heroines. I like mine with back bones and sass and smarts, and Megan had it all.

The banter was fabulous, the flow was great, the arc wasn't rushed or trite or cliched...everything balanced nicely. I laughed and I smiled and I got that pit in my stomach when everything sort of fell apart. That's the mark of a good book for me. I mean, obviously this is a CR so you know there's an HEA, but how they were going to get there was unclear, and that made all the difference for me in going through the motions with these characters.

If you're looking for a light-hearted, fun read with engaging and fresh characters, this is an excellent way to spend a few hours. The best part? Word on the street is this sucker is free on Amazon.

Very much enjoyed this book. It's light and fun, but with a nice (albeit expected) emotional development.

Megan and Connor meet in Vegas the night before Megan's cousin's wedding. They have a drink and talk and talk and laugh and talk and drink... and the next morning Megan wakes up married. And
Show More
can't remember a thing.

But Megan had a plan. And that plan didn't involve a husband. Connor, on the other hand, doesn't want a divorce.

The story was both expected and unexpected. The two characters are very stable, balanced people, but with an inherent emotional flaw. Each for his own reason.

Sweet story, HEA, and some swoony and amusing moments.

New romance book line. Megan is in Vegas to attend a friend's wedding. Her relationships have been a disaster, so she plans to return homw and us a sperm donor to have a baby. Conner happens to be in the bar, when Megan's friends give her a pink "Got Sperm?" t-shirt. Intrigued, they leave together
Show More
and have a blast for the rest for the night, including getting married - which Megan doesn't remember. Conner gets Megan to accept a three month "trial" marriage before filing for divorce, because she's the best thing that ever happened to him. Now he has to get her to agree.

Kat's staff pick for 5/19/13.

Kat says: Waking Up Married presents a cute and at times angst-ridden take on the "what happens in Vegas" theme. It was fun to read how the romance happened after the vows. Best of all, this book is free at ARe, and worth picking up.

Cutest thing ever and the romance was so sweet. Really liked the characters of Connor and Megan. Normally I wouldn't give a book like this a five star review, but today I'm feeling a little bit in love. :)

Pretty cute story. I really didn't like the heros posessiveness a lot of the time, but the heroine held her own a lot of the time, and overall the story was a fun romp. Not perfect, but cute for a weekend read.

I enjoyed this vacation read more than I thought I would. It was a light, fun read. I was able to put it down easily, but was happy to pick it up again when I had a few moments to read. Predictable? yes. Boring? Not at all.

I liked this author's style but disliked the overall plot. It is just such an unbelievable concept. But someone who can suspend disbelief might like it.
