A few years later, Fran's pregnant with Alice and they have to go deal with a town full of mermaids (OK, fin-folk) who are losing their babies. Worth reading, though not as strong as some of the short stories.

More water creatures, so color me happy. I've always been a HUGE fan of mermaids and this was close enough for me. I was also happy to see the growth of Jonathan and Fran and them moving on as a family unit. I enjoyed the Aeslin mice being once again more involved in the story. I'm a little sad

because I know from reading other reviews that I've reached the end of Jonathan and Fran's story and I will miss them, but I'm looking forward to seeing their descendants in the main part of the series. Show Less

An interesting take on an Innsmouth-type situation. And it was exciting to get to the birth of Alice !

Ok, well, it's a good introduction to Gentling, which is a really interesting place. The plot line felt a little shaky to me -- didn't really make sense.
