Lovely little book. It doesn't have a lot to it - it's mostly setting the scene for a more complex story. The events are mostly preparation - from the arrival, to the truce, to the children; introducing us to a lot of fascinating characters and presenting their complicated relationships and complex

pasts. Very few characters actually change over the course of the book - Lutan and Kuruk are the only two I can really think of, and each of them was the result of a single traumatic experience. As a stand-alone story, it's good but not satisfying; I know there's more to come, and am looking forward to reading it.
