Werewolf paranormal romance but with a fairly decent plot too - some interesting world-building and fast moving action just about push through the 'romance' enough to an solid conclusion that lays the foundations for the rest of the series to come (in the future though it's not yet written as far

as I know)

Lemond is a bit of a drifter running from home, but he's managed to establish enough of a career that accepted as the only volunteer for a vacancy following the retirement of the incumbent in Pine Woods' small county. It's a bit of a trek from Arizona up to Montana, but there's no ties keeping him anywhere. It's supposed to be a quite place and he fancies the chance to get some fishing in. However it's all a bit more exciting than expected when on the drive up he nearly runs down an injured (and naked) teenager stumbling from the woods. He takes the lad into the town and is met by the pretty hayley who's the Warden of the local preserve, a private nature reserve where the wolfs still run free - leading to plenty of jokes.

Hayley is the local werewolf pack alpha, not just the leader but possessed of the ability to turn into the dominant half-form. It's not clear how well thought through this is, but so far it's controlled although not explained pretty tightly. She's only been in the job a ear after her mum retired, but ti's a small pack every knows her and respects the family lines. The downside is that there's no-one for her to date/mate. She's very disconcerted that the boy appears werewolf bit, because she thought she knew her locals better than that. Lemond is an enticing distraction, but the pack rules mean that some secrets have to be kept.

There's some very graphic sex as Hayley and Lemond keep trying to find a suitable moment, which is almost amusing and a higher than statistically likely number of alternative gender choices. The sex pervades most of the middle third, and even allowing for the nature of the beast seems somewhat excessive. Apart from that the three main characters switch viewpoints clearly, even the side-characters have some degree of shape and personality and the world-building is intriguing with several strands still to be investigated.

I enjoyed it and will probably read the sequels when they're available.

Edge of the Woods by Jules Kelley is a werewolf paranormal romance. The author has taken the usual tropes and put a few twists on them. Pine Grove is a small town with a population that is about 50/50 werewolves (mostly born, a few bitten) and humans, and everyone in town knows, but it’s a secret

to the rest of the world. The town uses this as a tourist draw, holding "fake" werewolf tours, especially around the full moon, and selling werewolf kitsch.

The day that new deputy sheriff Leland arrives in town, he finds a naked, injured young man on the road and brings him in to the doctor. There he also meets Haley Fern, the Park Administrator, who is also the alpha werewolf. Haley, is super attracted to Leland, but also trying not to let him in on the werewolves-are-real secret, needs to deal with the injured man (bitten and turned by an unknown werewolf), figure out who bit him, not look weak to her werewolf bosses, lead the pack out on full moons, etc. Leland is super-attracted to Haley, too, but also confused by the town and the whole tourist/werewolf thing.

There are the obligatory sex scenes, mostly in the later part of the book, and they’re not terribly written, but there was (in my opinion) rather too much of it, and at inappropriate times. Sure, lets head out into the woods where we KNOW something weird/dangerous is going on and take our clothes off and not pay attention to anything happening around us.

Gender roles/choices are presented along a fairly wide spectrum and very matter-of-factly, which is nice.

First in a series. Will read later installments if they come my way, but not a top pick.

Let me first say: fun! I really liked this one. Nice characters with a lot of chemistry, Leland and Haley are made for each other.
The whole werewolves thing was interesting to say the least, Haley was elected to be the alpha. And there is a definite distinction between werewolves who are born that way, and who are made that way., which also becomes an issue in the book.
Are we difficult about bisexuality, homosexuality, trans people? No, because it was handled in an easy, normal way.
I really liked Haley and Leland, normal people with normal rounded bodies with love handles.
One thing, I saw very early in the story who would be the villain, that wasn't difficult to see.
