Description

Song of the Redwing gives children a birds-eye view of life in a marsh, from sunrise to sunrise. Through the eyes of the lively Red-winged Blackbird, children explore a very real, yet dreamlike, landscape that teems with texture, color, and light. Here in the marsh, where bog meets sky, readers encounter the varied creatures that thrive on the land, in the air, and in the water of this rich and diverse environment. So, slip on your rubber boots, and let's visit the marsh!

It is a very cute, fun to read book. I love how it tells about the different animals in day and the night ones as well. Great book if you are looking to help get your child interested in wildlife. The art work is beautiful as well.

This is a wonderful children's book. It follows the arc of a day in a wetland, mentioning different birds and animals and what they would do at the various times of day. The text if lyrical and in a rhyming meter. The illustrations are watercolors that make you feel you are there in the marsh

seeing the animals and feeling the breeze. The vocabulary used is lush also. This book will help expand a child's understanding of the world and expand their vocabulary beyond what is typically seen in children's books. I felt as if I had had a quick trip to the marsh and subsequently felt refreshed. It is one that I will definitely be recommending.

This book was a delightful mix of very well thought out rhymes, rich vocabulary, and soothing illustrations about a day in the marsh. The cadence of the rhymes kept the story flowing and the descriptive language is perfect for teaching early readers. I especially like the factual information about

the marsh animals at the end of the book. This book would be a top pick for a library story time on nature or for a lesson about this habitat in a classroom setting.

Cute, if somewhat awkward, poetry. The pictures (paintings) of the swamp and its creatures are gorgeous. Pleasant, though not much to it. It would be great for reading to/with a child.

Beautiful, colorful, water-color illustrations are a highlight of this picture book. I received a color PDF file of this book as a Library Thing Early Reviewer. A story set in a wetland from the point of view of a red-wing blackbird. The day long story includes a wide range of animals and their

environment. Nicely done!

Redwing Blackbird wakes up in with the sunrise to observe his domain in the marshland. He flies around and sees other birds, bugs, otters and beavers, too. Redwing hears the songs of other birds and the buzz of insects at noon as well as notices the scents of all the flowers. As the sun sets,

Redwing sees forest families, fish, and lizards. A full moon welcomes owls and bats as redwing returns to his nest.

Song of the Redwing is a beautiful ode to the environment of the marshland and wetland. Written for children, this can definitely be enjoyed by any nature lover. There are some lesser known words introduced that are good opportunities to introduce new vocabulary for kids. Written in rhyming verse from the point of view of Redwing, Song of the Redwing brings you into nature and encourages the use of all of your senses to notice the many things going on around you. The beautiful watercolor paintings are realistic while letting you look up close into the world of wildlife.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

The watercolor paintings in this children's book are amazing. I can picture them on a coffee table in a mountain cabin somewhere. They are not just lovely, but accurately show the different animals and habitats described.

The writing is in poem form. Sometimes the words can be a mouthful, but I

appreciated the easy flow through the redwing's day as he visited different places. The descriptive language was fun and would be a great way to introduce children to adjectives.

Overall, I would add this one to my library if it was available for the right price.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher for free to review. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions are my own (or my children's).
