Noting that this romance, like the first in the series, contains a lot of the tropes I dislike - so that I read and enjoyed it is slightly surprising. Good but not as good as the first book; this is Walker and Sabrina, the other half of Brooke's story. They're under more pressure - the bad guys
Show More
hold them longer, and then are closer behind, than they were for Brooke and Kane. The erotic aspect is also stronger, and the sex scenes...I think more frequent, and even more explicit than in Captive Wilderness. On the other hand, the emotional aspect of the sex scenes and the relationship they're building therewith are also just as strong as in the first book, so I actually read the scenes and found them both valuable to the story and quite hot. And the immediate threat is dealt with, but the big bad gets away and the last chapter sets up the next story - I'm looking forward to that. Landon and Jolyn, I suspect.

This was such a great second book for the series!! There are some much darker themes in this story than in the previous book and a trigger warning should be added. Sabrina and Walker have spicy chemistry and the storyline is exciting and suspenseful. The steam level is definitely high. I love how
Show More
loyal and protective Walker is and the strength of Sabrina. We also meet more characters that really add to the overarching storyline. It was so hard to put down so I suggest reading when you have some time to commit. I love the connection between the sisters and their mates. This has been a really interesting shifter series so far and I look forward to more! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

This is the second in the Goldenlach Ridge series. I appreciate how this begins with a slight recap of the first book in the series, Captive Wilderness. Then it takes on a life of its own with main characters, Walker and Sabrina. Throughout the book, the characters expose their own past stories

that had aided them into becoming who they now are. The story of shifters being captured and exploited for the pleasure of people who are twisted and just too rich is fiction, of course, but may also ring some other bells in the nonfiction world. This is mostly a very serious, sometimes violent story but one that also contains it’s share of humor. My favorite was the brief episode with pizza and Sabrina’s enjoyment of it. I reread it – and several more times. It added a lightness which I appreciated in an otherwise dramatic story. Now meeting this second couple, I enjoyed learning about their relationships with the couple in the first book. The third book will probably tie them all together with the next couple and I look forward to reading it when it is available.

This book was a fun read. I've now read both books in the series and I can't wait for the next one. It was a sweet shifter romance with some intrigue.
