This is a Calder mystery, so it's only OK - Keith Calder is a know-it-all. But these early Calders are much more readable than the later ones where the reader is supposed to know all about Keith's tricks - this one has a couple scenes where somebody is startled by him suddenly going into a trance,

and someone else explains that 'he's thinking' (one reply is "Oh? I thought he'd died."). Later books don't have explanations - he breaks off in the middle of a conversation then starts rattling off orders or questions and everybody jumps. PITA to me.
