Probably my favorite in this excellent historical series. Perfect mix of history, period detail, and romance. The female characters are all the more entertaining for the their somewhat more modern traits and perspectives, and Gellis' sole irritating plot device, that of recurrent misunderstandings

between/among the major characters, is a very minor annoyance. And it is wonderful to catch up with characters from the other books in the series. Highly recommended. Show Less

Oh, lovely. The historical side is very interesting - again, this isn't a period I know anything about and I'm learning fascinating stuff. The romance side should be very annoying, since the primary tropes are misunderstanding and overwhelming lust, both of which I find very annoying. However, it's

presented so well, in such solid characters, that I enjoyed the story tremendously - and spent quite a bit of time laughing at their antics. Gillane is such a fragile flower at the beginning - hmm, and another trope is abused woman learning to trust, which I like - and develops herself so solidly purely because Adam expects it of her...I really like her. The name was a little confusing at the beginning, since there's an important secondary character in the last book named Gillane, but it was quickly clear that this was an entirely different person. Excellent story, I want to read the next one now (and I have it to read). Show Less
