More neat story. A little backstory on Dr Fell, Henry, and Dinah, and more of Jain's story. And two lovely new characters - Tolly is great. The only problem is, the story sort of stops in the middle! What's with teaching Pindar to purr? How will he react to the tree? Why does Rackham say Jain has

lots of room? What is Dayne's plan, and what does it have to do with the castle or Henry? And what about the new fosterling? And the ghost? And and...More, please! Unfortunately, Medley is reportedly taking a break from Castle Waiting. Sigh.

Castle Waiting is one of those rare series that doesn't come along often, taking common every day fairy tales and turning them on their heads. Linda Medley creates a captivating story and turns 2-D characters into people that you could expect to meet in real life (perhaps not as a talking horse,

but still...) In this volume we get to find out about Jain's childhood and start to get an idea for who the father of her child is. We get to meet Henry's family and we learn about Dr. Fell's sad tragic past that made him a bit off his rocker. The stories are woven together in a captivating tale that can't be missed. And I hope that the wait for Volume 3 won't be too long.

Thoroughly enjoyed this volume. Continuing where the first left off, we're getting to know more back-stories and a few more characters are thrown into the mix as well. Lots of fun & humor, more touching & endearing moments as well. Unfortunately it's noticeably shorter than the first, and leaves us

hanging with many questions and cliffhangers!

I felt like it took forever for this book to come out. I read the first one years ago and I loved it and now that I've read the second one I love it even more. Jain and Pinder are still at the Castle and they are picking out a more permanent place for themselves. In this volume we get a lot of

history about Jain and Henry. Two of Henry's family come to visit, from the dwarves that raised him, there are flashbacks for Jain and we get a little bit of how Simon's mother and father met and Dr. Fell's sad history. I love finding out how different characters relate to well known fairy tales and even seeing how some of them are running parallel. Meanwhile we also learn more about the castle itself and the hidden passages within. All while getting to watch the characters interact with each other which is often very funny.

More of the mystery of Lady Jain, now with hammerlines added.

I was a little disappointed in this volume. Curiously, what made the first volume charming and unique (little to no conflict, detailed descriptions of everyday life, interesting backstories) made this volume annoying. I figured that if the series had been going on this long, there should be more of
Show More
an overarching story rather than random bits and pieces scattered around the book for the reader to puzzle over. You get hints of conflict and mentions of war, but those matters still seem to have little relevance to most of the inhabitants of the castle. Also, like the last volume, this book ended very abruptly. If these comics are going to be bound together into larger volumes, there should be a rhyme and reason to the point at which the volume ends. I understand not resolving a larger story, but the smaller story arcs should at least wrap up.

That said, Medley's art is wonderful as always.
