The latest Valedemar anthology. Tanya Huff's story almost made me break down in tears when I finished it. Some of the other authors didn't quite seem to get the voice of the world down, though, and it felt like an uneven collection. Some of the stories build on stories in previous anthologies, I

want to go back and fill in my collection to get the full tale.

Really liked this new installment of the Valdemar short stories anthologies. It's like getting a shot of Valdemar in tiny bits. Really enjoyed reading the different perspectives, and having past characters from previous stories reappear in this book. Great fun! If you love Valdemar, you'll like

Another enjoyable collection of stories set in Valedmar.

Very uneven. One story got Valdemar really wrong. Still, I enjoyed most of it.

Individual introductions to the stories would have been nice.

Not bad! Nothing terribly memorable or outstanding, but some of the stories made use of characters that have been carried over from previous anthologies and it was nice to see them developed further.

The Valdemar anthologies have become pretty predictable - the roster doesn't vary much, and most of the authors are using the same characters - but they're pretty consistently solid, and Valdemar is comfort food by definition. The Tanya Huff entry was heartbreaking in a way that is totally

supported by the logic of the universe. Not all of the others felt so perfectly suited (Sarah Hoyt's characters are only tangentially connected, and as delightful as Fiona Patton's city-cop adventures are, I have a lot of trouble reconciling them with the canon Skif stories,) but they were pretty much all a pleasant read nonetheless.
