The illustrations are lovely, but I couldn't get through the text. It alternates between the Moore poem and an accompanying poem Goodrich wrote to tell the story of a child who stayed awake and witnessed everyting on Christmas Eve (i.e. the creature who was stirring). The whole thing is weird.

Obviously, the narrator of the Moore always was a creature stirring, and Goodrich's sing-song verse doesn't stand up next to Moore's classic. It's also reeeeeaaaaaaalllllly loooooonnnnnng. Show Less
