A paragraph from the preface of this book explains the reason for the birth of this publication. We quote directly, "At first thought, the average reader would be inclined to think that there is little excuse, at this late date, for writing an account of the Wounded Knee Massacre, but it should be

remembered that about the only thing that has been written, is from the pens of white people who have often been prejudiced writers and made heroes of the soldiers and blood-thirsty savages of the Indians. The Sioux have said but little and written less. It therefore, becomes in the interest of justice as duty toward the survivors, to write the story of Wounded Knee Massacre from the Red Man's viewpoint." This is exactly what Mr. McGregor has done. The stories as told by the Sioux Indians themselves, have been put together by the author in a sympathetic way. It gives us an insight of the mistreatment the American Indian received from his white conquerors. The first 138 pages tells the story of the massacre, and the last 36 pages are devoted to statements of the survivors and photographs of each. It is another interesting volume to add to that collection of Indian material. The book is paper bound but sturdy and will stand up under a lot of hard study.
