Fantasy. Romance. Folklore. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:A modern masterpiece, this is a classic Gothic thriller-fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Erin A. Craig, about doomed love, menacing ambition, and the ghosts that haunt us forever. In a manor by the sea, one sister is still cursed. Despite dreams of adventures far beyond the Salann shores, seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas has remained at her family??s estate, Highmoor, with her older sister Camille, while their sisters have scattered across Arcannia. When their sister Mercy sends word that the Duchess of Bloem??wife of a celebrated botanist??is interested in having Verity paint a portrait of her son, Alexander, Verity jumps at the chance, but Camille won??t allow it. Forced to reveal the secret she??s kept for years, Camille tells Verity the truth one day: Verity is still seeing ghosts, she just doesn??t know it.           Stunned, Verity flees Highmoor that night and??with nowhere else to turn??makes her way to Bloem. This book did noting for me. In the beginning I was intrigued by the hacking of the mass emails and the secrets that were being revealed. Yet, what was the problem for me when it came to this book are the characters. None of them were likable in my opinion.

In fact, the characters came off as more

childish than adults. I wanted to like this book but I just couldn't. Also, it seemed that the story kind of repeated itself with details which made the pacing slow down. After getting a third of the way into the story; I kindly put the book down.

A special thank you to Edelweiss, NetGalley and Penguin Group/Dutton for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When a hacker dumps 40,000 people's emails onto an easily accessible database, the entire student body, faculty, staff, and alums at Aldrich University are rocked. Secrets, affairs,
Show More
scandals...it's all there.

But when Kit Manning's husband, Dr. Greg Strasser, is found murdered in his kitchen, things take a dramatic turn. Kit's sister, Willa, returns home to attend Greg's funeral. She fled fifteen years ago after a night she desperately would like to forget. Willa is an investigative reporter and knows that something is off with the events surrounding Greg's death—she's determined to find out what actually happened before someone else ends up dead.

Sara Shepard is always a standout. This explosive, sharp, and propulsive novel is full of twists and shocking reveals. Her writing is captivating, clever, and above all, entertaining. It is framed more like a TV series, with Shepards foot firmly on the gas, but it works. There are several moving pieces to this story—none of the characters are innocent and they all have something to hide. She skillfully tells the story from multiple female perspectives. None of these women are particularly enjoyable, but that just amps up the drama and pettiness.

Given the number of twists and turns the narrative takes, unfortunately the #MeToo tie-in gets lost and ultimately ends up as more of a comment in passing. For me, this was the difference between 4 and 5 stars.

Reputation is a soapy story of intrigue, sabotage, secrets, and the lengths we go to keep them. I devoured it for the gossipy treat it was.

Holy Moley! How did Sara Shepard keep track of all the various sneaky and conniving characters in this book? I’d love to see her organization system. There was so much going on in this book, blackmail, murder, hacking of university systems, illicit romances, and kinky sex. Great reading, but boy

am I tired after reading the book.

I was a little surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The book centers around a number of characters associated with a prestigious college/medical school. They all have secrets, too many which are revealed in an e-mail hack, and they all pay a price for their poor choices. There are many, many

twists in these sordid tales making it a very entertaining book!

"Reputation" by Sara Shepard

My Speculation:

What a good read with a fascinating plot with twists and turns all over the place. We are given a story with at least a five-points of view
Show More
from Kit, Lynn, Raina, Laur, and Walla. This will be a long story, so you will have to keep up with who is who with these characters and a few more that will keep you turning the pages as you go from chapter to the next section. Be ready with what happens at this prestigious Aldrich University, where emails are hacked and secrets being revealed.

Along with all of that, we will see how 'scandals, blackmail, illicit romances, and even kinky sex' will be told that will lead to murder. Be ready for a little bit of it all as we go through a 'major scandal, crazy lies, secrets, and wild twists' all over the place that will keep you guessing right up till the end. I enjoyed how this author summed up everything at the end and didn't leave us hanging!

Thank you to NetGalley for my e-arc of this book.

Reputation by Sara Shepard is a twisty, suspense-laden domestic mystery.

Kit Manning-Strauss is spooked by an anonymous text she receives while out of town wooing a donor for Aldrich University, an upscale private college. Returning to town the next day, she, the rest of the campus and associated

hospital staff are horrified when the system is hacked and their emails are publicly posted. Kit's emails are aboveboard, but the same cannot be said for her cardiac surgeon husband Greg Strasser. A series of explicit email changes between he and "Lolita" are the subject rumor and speculation. Kit is so angry she just wants her husband to disappear and she gets her wish when he is murdered. Kit's memories of the night of his death are hazy but she is certain she is not a killer. But if she did not kill him, then who did?

Kit should be a sympathetic character but she comes across as shallow and self-absorbed. Instead of helping her daughters Sienna and Aurora deal with their stepfather's murder, she leaves them to cope on their own. Kit does not exactly welcome her sister Willa's help in trying to unearth the truth about what happened to Greg.

Kit's co-worker Lynn Godfrey is manipulative and controlling. She also delights in helping the unsavory revelations from the emails gain traction in the court of public opinion. Lynn is dismissive towards Kit and uses her co-worker's distraction and grief to further her own career. She soon becomes suspicious of her husband Patrick but will Lynn uncover the truth about what is going on with him?

Laura Apatrea is a nurse who works with Greg. She and her police officer husband Ollie are also new parents who are absolutely crazy about their infant son. Although Laura's emails were also hacked, there is nothing notable in her exchanges. However it soon becomes obvious that she is very worried and anxious about another matter. Does this concern have anything to do with Greg's murder?

Unfolding from alternating points of view, Reputation is a fast-paced and engrossing mystery. While the characters are well-developed, some are more appealing than others. The storyline is well-developed but a few of the plot twists are a bit melodramatic and soap opera-ish. With no shortage of suspects or plausible motives for Greg's murder, Sara Shepard brings this clever mystery to a rather shocking conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this riveting mystery to readers of the genre.

I wasn’t really expecting a whole lot from this book. Maybe it was wrong of me, but my thinking was based on this being the author of the Pretty Little Liars series. i’m glad to say I was completely mistaken.
Murder, hackers, secrets... just a few of the things to keep you guessing. I did a

lot of that, but remained stumped almost until the end. Each time I thought I had the answer, another option was presented, someone else with a secret to hide. A pretty good, quick read.

So the problem with this book is:
1. Way too many storylines that point to who could be the murderer.
2. Way too many hot topics covered.
3. There are really no good people in this book, everyone is lying, cheating, scheming, backstabbing, or and or behaving like a pig or a sociopath.
