This is one in a series of Rotten School books. Students seem to enjoy the humor and the slang that the story is written in and the illustration are well done. The plot is interesting and the characters are fun and likeable though a bit predictable and anticlimactic. An ok read.

someone playing a joke on another student? The only thing one knows for sure however is to stay away from Bernie Bridges. The name, Bernie Bridges spells TROUBLE! R.L. Stine has fashioned a suspenseful story through the use of creating a school that may be haunted, thus creating a page turning story!

Characterization: Bernie Bridges, the main character in the story, is a questionable student. One cannot determine whether he is a sweet student or if he has a mean side to him. Everyone knows that within every school, there is a bully and Joe Sweety takes on that role. He is mean, big and always ready to use his fists on anyone who looks at him the wrong way. Bernie however, is tired of the way Joe treats the other students. So he takes matters into his own hands, and gets back at the school bully!
As one can see, Bernie is also a round character because, as we read, we learn that he does not like Joe Sweety and the way he treats other students. We also learn that Bernie has character because he stands up for what he believes in and gives a voice to those who do not have one. But does Bernie take it too far with his pay back? Read Dudes, the School is Haunted! to find out.
