This delightful group of stories is a sweet, light read. None of the stories focus on the main characters of the other books, giving the reader that little bit more of an insite into 'average' Pern life.

This is worth owning for the sake of 'Smallest Dragonboy' and 'Runner of Pern'.

I originally got this because of The Smallest Dragonboy and the rest of the stories were completely new to me. After having read them multiple times now, though, I still love all of them, though my favorite is The Runner of Pern. The artwork is beautiful, as well. Highly recommended!

This book is a short collection of four short stories. I enjoyed each of them.

The Smallest Dragonboy I had read before. I enjoyed reading about the boy who wouldn't give up.

The Girl Who Heard Dragons is fascinating as background for how the Holdless were adapting to threadfall on Pern. And of

course the title character is interesting. This story also had a tie to the first one.

Runner of Pern also advanced my knowledge of one of Pern's communication systems. No Pony Express for Pern -- they have human runners.

Ever the Twain answers what could happen when a twin is chosen on Search. Where does the other one stand?

It has been years since I read a book based in Pern and this is pushing me to read more.

Good entry into the World of Pern.

This is a small volume composed of four stories. First is "The Smallest Dragonboy", in which we follow the smallest Candidate, Keevan, as he seeks to Impress a dragon. This was copyrighted in 1973. Next is "The Girl who Heard Dragons," about a holdless family forced to flee from their temporary

home. Aramina is the one who hears dragons, and they hear her. This was previously published in 1994. The following story is "Runner of Pern" about Tenna, who runs messages as a long-distance runner. This follows her start as a Runner. It was previously published in 1998. The last story is "Ever the Twain" about the twins, Nian and Neru, found on a Search for candidates. It was written in 2002, for this anthology. These are classic McCaffrey stories, with her accustomed eye for detail and the central place of dragons in the society.
