Boake Carter wrote this book shortly before the Italian invasion of Ethiopian, capturing a moment in time. Italy already held the strip of coast bordering Ethiopia, now called Eritrea. Mussolini wanted Ethiopia's resources, wanted revenge for a humiliating defeat at Adwa in 1896, and war distracts

a restless population.
Carter's writing is prescient. In the last chapter he predicts a European war on the horizon (he wrote this book in 1935).
Obviously this book is quite dated. One could skip this book, unless one is deeply interested in this time period or the war. If you want a comprehensive history of the 2nd Italo-Ethiopian War, I would recommend The Emperor and the Clown.
On a purely superficial level this book has an interesting, illustrated dust jacket.
