I love the Heartstopper comics but did was just okay for me. The story would have worked better as a storyline in the comic instead of a separate novella. Maybe if I'd gone through something similar in my teens I would have enjoyed this more, but I'm really not a fan of the miscommuncation trope,

so mostly this felt a lot unnecessary.

Set two years after the Heartstopper graphic novels, this novella has Charlie wondering if he and their relationship can tolerate being long distance.

Oseman's character development is superb, and there were a few times I wasn't sure where the boys relationship was headed.

I loved the book and like

a lot of LGBT+ people around my age, I wish that there was something like Heartstopper around when I was a teen.

With Nick heading off to university in the fall, he and Charlie have some drama about long-distance relationships stuffed with contrivances and idiocy. Regardless of how stupid they act, it's nice to visit the characters while waiting for the final -- and hopefully much better -- graphic

novel.

Editor David Levithan contributes some useful end matter explaining the differences between British and American language and school systems.

Trigger Warnings: mention of eating disorder recovery

Nick is leaving for university soon, and Charlie, a year younger, will be left behind to finish his last year of school. Everyone keeps asking them if they’re going to stay together, and Nick and Charlie both think that’s a silly question…

at first. As the time for departure gets closer and closer, the boys start to question whether or not their love is strong enough for the distance - because of this, communication is mixed up and things begin to spiral. Can the boys’ love survive?

What a cute and adorable novella in the Nick and Charlie universe! I absolutely loved the graphic novels, so I knew I would enjoy this novella too. I haven’t read any of Alice Oseman’s novels yet, so this was kind of a sneak peak for me to see her writing style outside of graphic novels - and I really enjoyed it. Oseman was able to convey descriptions of what was happening, in the various first person POVs of Nick and Charlie, well and I know that can be a bit of a challenge when writing it versus drawing it.

I’m glad Oseman still brought up Charlie’s eating troubles and what that looks like years down the line. As it was kind of mentioned, it’s not something that just “gets fixed”, and it’s something Charlie is constantly working on and something that Nick is aware of (like the eating of snacks).

This was a nice and cute, quick and short read. Totally started the book at 9 in the evening and had it finished before bed. I highly recommend this to lovers of the Heartstopper series as you’ll get the same lovey-dovey feels you got from the graphic novels!

audio novella (1 hr, 45 min, full cast audio with very professional-sounding actors), 1.5 in Heartstoppers series

Charlie and Nick have now been dating for two years and now Nick is graduating and about to start University. Not really a full story, just a short episode--one big spat and then they

eventually make up--but lovely enough if you enjoy shipping the two.

As someone who thoroughly enjoys the Heartstopper graphic novel series as well as its television adaptation, this novella was a lovely scene into the future of each Nick and Charlie - what their relationship will look like and how the pair need to work together in order to overcome any obstacle. It
Show More
remains true and continuous to the main series by mentioning previous events such as Charlie’s sufferings in mental health found in volumes 3+4 of the graphic novels. Overall, this was a great addition to the Heartstopper universe!

Very cute. I don't know whether I'd have enjoyed it so much as a standalone, but I also don't think that it was really meant to stand apart from the graphic novels. This felt more like a love letter to fans, or a timestamp installment to a story. For that purpose, I think it served well. The
Show More
characters I know and love from the Heartstopper books are as sweet and frustratingly dense as ever, and I was glad that this was just a novella so that the angst wasn't prolonged. The extra section on British/American phrases and concepts was fun, too!

Nick and Charlie have been together through most of high school, as the school year ends, Nick has been getting excited to go to uni, however Charlie has been dreading him leaving. The issue at hand comes between their relationship, causing them to work through a difficult conflict in the summer.

Going into this book, I was very nervous for these two, and at some points in the book it really seemed like it was the end of their relationship. But by the end, crisis was averted, and everything was okay. This turned out to be a really quick and lighthearted read (but also borderline upsetting) that I really enjoyed. Any fan of Heartstopper or Oseman's works should definitely read this.

Anyone who has read or watched Heartstopper knows Nick and Charlie. This novella follows them two years into their relationship as Nick finishes school and the prospect of heading off the college looms while Charlie still has another year to go. How can they navigate a long distance when they
Show More
aren’t even talking about it?

I was looking for something quick and easy to listen to on Christmas Day and at just under two hours this was a perfect read. We meet some of the friends from Heartstopper but mostly we focus on the two boys and they navigate actually talking about their feelings.

Easy listen and a nice addition to the series.

After reading all the graphic novels, its so interesting to read this novella and get a taste of both Nick and Charlie's inner monologs. The story itself is a little predictable, but its still sweet. A good read for every older Heartstopper fan.
