Living Color does an amazing job of giving great examples of living things around the world that are different colors. The way that the author shows the animals' colors makes the pictures almost pop out at you! But not only do the pictures have an amazing effect, but how the author gives
Show More
information about the animals is an added bonus!

I would use this book in a lesson for teaching about color and the various things around the world.

A fun and informative book that explores the creatures that exisit in the animal kingdom and presents small facts and information about the various colors they take on. Colorful and detailed pictures fill the pages and grab the attention of the reader from the first page.

Yellow says, 'Better look twice.' Red says, 'I taste terrible.' Green says, 'I don't want a bath.' This wonderful nonfiction animal book is organized by animal color. Some colors warn predators, some colors attract mates, and some colors are camouflage. Almost every color has a purpose and this
Show More
book has discovered that purpose.

Why are different animals certain colors? Jenkins explains at the beginning that animals have very clever and important reasons for their coloring, often protecting themselves from the dangers of the world. The book is broken down into different colors with the headlines, 'Red says...,' 'Yellow

says...' etc., followed by large, colorful pictures of diverse animals of that same color. Each has a little clever saying in the same color, such as the trumpet fish, who says 'just ignore me' (his yellow color allows him to blend in with coral and avoid predators.) There are also little blurbs about each animal that tell, in more detail, exactly how the animal's color serves it in the wild.

Jenkins skillfully outlines the colors of animals and what the colors means. The pages are separated by color and so vivid and enticing that you find yourself saying, "I didn't know animals could be that color", or why mammals are so drab and lack color. The back has an encyclopedia of the animals

in the book which is very helpful in finding information quickly.

This is a fabulous book for art, science, and creative writing. This book would help narrow down a students decision for a research assignment. I think this fun would be fantastic for a classroom and as a read aloud. The illustrations are so vibrant and really help with the description of the

animals. It is very helpful to have the pronunciation for some of the harder to pronounce animals. At the very end the index is extremely helpful. Great informational book!

This beautifully illustrated book focuses on the clues we can gain from an animal based on its color. The illustrations are vivid and the facts impressive.

Well done book which groups animals (including birds, reptiles, fish and other sea creatures, and others) on the page according to color, then explains why each animal is that color/what it does for them (ie orange pygmy seahorses are thus to blend with tropical coral). Beautiful, vibrant
Show More
cut-paper illustrations and intriguing subheadings for each animal (Don't touch! or "Don't eat me... I'm here to help) that will pull kids in to learning about each animal. 5 pages at the end provide more information on each animal depicted, including length, habitat, and diet.
Recommended for ages 8-12.

This stunning information book is loaded with surprises. Did you know that the Portuguese Man of War is not a jellyfish, as it appears, but rather a roving colony of thousands of smaller creatures called polyps? Steven Jenkins dramatically showcases some of the most fascinating and colorful animals
Show More
one has ever heard of, or not heard of as the case may be. He organizes the animals by color and explains in common, kid-friendly terms how the color suits that particular animal. Jenkins artful collage cleverly arranged on each page make this treasure one for the eye as well as for the mind. There is an index of the animals in the back of the book with additional information about them.

This book described different colors in the animal world and ways that colors are used. The content was informative, but probably best suited for upper elementary. The illustrations were eye-catching. The colors were bold and vibrant! I liked how the pictures looked somewhat lifelike. The way that
Show More
some of the illustrations were done also showed texture on the page. For instance, one picture captured the feather-like texture on a great hornbill bird. Because the colors are bold and vibrant, I might use this book to teach colors! I think young children would be captivated by the pictures.

With the amount of color this book contains, it is very appealing with the children who want to learn about how colors affect the world around us. It provides insight to a world of vivid color and imagination that not a lot of people know about.

I thought that this book was very useful and exciting to read. It had great information about all sorts of different animals and creatures that are the same color. You could easily use this in any elementary school classroom and have it been a cool science experiment or project.

This book can be used in the classroom very easily. Either in a life science unit for discussing defense mechanisms or in a unit on colors for kinders. The imagery is very well done.

This is a wonderful Nonfiction book that introduces various animals, birds, insects and fish through the use of color. Small informational sections on each animal are next to a wonderful illustration.

This is a really great book. I really enjoyed the bright colorful illustrations. I love how the book is divided up with pictures and details at the bottom. The book taught me how the different animals and insects use their colors for protection, mating, indicate maturatity, attraction, or

camoflauge. It was really interesting to find out these many details. I would recommend this book for anyone classroom.

Living Color is a book about animals and the different colors they come in. It goes through every different color; red, blue, yellow, green, orange, pink and purple. It was interesting to see the animals that you would not expect in the colors. For example a red salamander and a blue frog are in

the book. At the end they have a list of all the animals in the book with their size, habitat, diet and an interesting fact about them.
This book is nonfiction, informational book.
I liked this book because it is fun and looks entertaining for children. It was interesting to learn about how animals come in all different colors of the rainbow.

This is a great book about all the differently colored animals and why they are the color that they are. It explains how they use their color to hide from prey, attract mates, and more. It features both familiar animals and animals that I've never even heard of before. The strenth in this book is
Show More
that children will learn that there is a reason to why animals are the colors they are and that it's not just about their looks.

I love the multi-color of the pictures. The enlarge pictures makes it more easily to look at and the paragraph forms of text are easy to read; it makes it easier to gather information.

Steve Jenkins beautiful illustrations are eye-catching. Children and adults can easily be drawn in to the wonder and mystery of these colorful animals and their stories.

I thought this was an excellent book. It would be a great book to use when teaching young students about non fiction because it has lots of information that would be new to students but it is presented in a simple way. I also think it would be fun to have students create collage art similar to that

in the book.

The author gives information about the natural life. It explains in a very beautiful manner the way colors red, blue, yellow and many more represent the life in different animals and even insects. This is one of the books on the top of my list. I would really like to use this book in my class

activities when learning about the living things around the world.
