This biography focuses on Mahlia's early years and moves quicker through her adult life, which is appropriate way to introduce someone to children. It shows how she finds joy in her singing despite the poverty and hard work of her upbringing, and her mother's worries that she stay focused on
Published by a Christian publisher, some may find it's focus on Christianity a bit overbearing, but it seems appropriate in the context of a woman who was herself focused on singing gospel songs and spirituals.
