This book takes the reader from the time just after a mother cat gives birth to her four kittens until they are eight weeks old. The story is nicely illustrated with close up photographs that depict the kittens development and growth. It also explains to the reader how the mother cares for and

teaches her kittens.

I thought the photography in this story was extraordinary. The mother cat was totally white like three of her kittens and the fourth kitten was completely black. I thought the black cat must be like the black sheep and was probably the most interesting kitten.

Good classroom extensions would be to make cat toys with yarn and discussing how people should care for a kitten after eight weeks.
