Left a widow after 49 years of marriage, Olivia surprises herself and shocks her rather conservative daughter by volunteering to go and teach in a refugee camp in Africa. The reader will probably be a little bit less surprised than she is to find out that she is still young enough to fall in
Basically a romance, but quite an intelligent, funny and touching one, cleverly and economically constructed. And it gently challenges a few of our received ideas about age, race and migration, although it's hardly a protest novel. Looks like a good, safe choice for Boekenweek.
