Description

Jay Gatsby had once loved beautiful, spoiled Daisy Buchanan, then lost her to a rich boy. Now, mysteriously wealthy, he is ready to risk everything to woo her back. This is the definitive, textually accurate edition of a classic of twentieth-century literature, The Great Gatsby. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan has been acclaimed by generations of readers; however the first edition contained a number of errors resulting from Fitzgerald's extensive revisions and a rushed production schedule.

3.5. "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy----they smashed
Up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made-------

I'm not a big graphic novel reader, in

fact I've read so few I know this is only my fifth endeavor. I enjoyed it, the illustrations were gorgeous, soft pastels and I did get the feel of the time period. Of course, one doesn't get the depth of the novel, but this rendering did a good job of condensing the story but giving enough so one receives the bones of the story. I was afraid the emotion would be lacking, and while not as intense, it was still there. Think this was well done. May try another graphic of a classic, much better than the cliff notes that we had to waddle through.

If you love this crushingly sad story, you'll truly appreciate the beauty of the flapper-era illustrations and the fine choices made in the text adaptation. The graphic novel brings the tragedy to life more than the movie(s). The words are stunning, and if you were forced to read this classic in

high school and hated it, try try again.

I'm not a fan of the original novel, but I thought I'd give this a go since it turned up at the local library. I shouldn't have bothered. Even in graphic novel format this book is filled with one of the most unlikable cast of characters I've come across. What a bunch of losers.

Art, color palette,

fonts -- none of them were particularly appealing either, though that could just be my mind souring on them due to their relation to this story.
