I can't say I ever sat down and said I wanted to read a book on this topic, but if you do this one is well written and has clear examples. the only problem is that it already is starting to feel dated.

This book is useful for classes in information retrieval. It tends to be technical in its information which could be a problem if you do not understand technical language so well.

The book has lengthy chapters that can be somewhat difficult to understand without reviewing course lectures or reading the chapters carefully.
