As we prepare to officially mark the 75th anniversary of Alderman Library with events next week, I took a look back at this short exhibition catalog from the last celebration, in 1988. It's an all-too-brief account of Aldeman Library's construction, uses, and expansion over its first five decades,

but is extremely interesting. I didn't know, for example, that the library was home to the Library of Congress' military maps and some manuscript collections during World War II (including the presidential papers), as well as the workplace for LC's National Union Catalog staff.
