This both a wonderful peek into a Victorian England view of the book and the library, as well as quite a few hard-to-find helpful thoughts on acquiring and managing a personal library. Written in 1897, "The Private Library" contains many tips and observations that are now only of use to the

historian of the book, but that in itself is a joy to a reader that loves both books and history.

This is a fairly quick read, which will lead to many margin notes and marks for ideas to return to at a later date while wrestling with your own private library.
