Someone recently posted a book haul that included a new (or newish) book in the Dragonriders of Pern series, one written by Anne McCaffrey's son, Todd. I've not read any of Todd's series continuation entries, but oh how I loved the original Pern books! I still remember finding The White Dragon in

the university bookstore my freshman year and buying it just because I liked the cover. I had no idea it was the third book in a series, so I was a little lost at not knowing what world I had been dropped into, but I caught on quickly and devoured it. Then I went back to the bookstore and bought the first two, and pretty much every one after that except perhaps the last couple Anne wrote before she died in 2011.

Anyway, that post reminded me how long it had been since I read any of the Pern books, and then I remembered that I had recently picked up this series-opening novel as an ebook special. I had to re-read it immediately, of course. I don't plan to continue with the series right now, but I must admit my appetite for roast wherry and a steaming pitcher of klah has been whetted ...
