engine. He was not a doctor but used the name Dr. Seuss because his mother’s maiden name was Seuss.

Personal Reaction
I grew up reading Dr. Seuss’s stories. I love the colorful pictures and rhyming words. Dr. Seuss inspired many children with his work. His books are my favorite stories and I love reading them to my nieces.

Extension Ideas
1.In the classroom we could read The Cat in the Hat and make our own hats like the one in the story.
2.The students could select their favorite Dr. Seuss stories and we could have a Dr. Seuss day and read his books.
3.The students could write their own rhyming story just like Dr. Seuss.
