Tom is a great book about a boy named Tommy and his grandpa Tom. They are best friends and are together every weekend. Tommy helps his grandpa and grandma at their grocery store and one day Tom (his grandpa) shows Tommy a trick and he loves it. When Tommy shows this trick to everyone at school they
As a student I loved this book. I am very close with my grandfather and this book only reminds me of the great times that we have had and have together. The illustrations were not high quality, but I didn’t use them very much. I like the problem of the story, because it is something that has happened with my grandpa and me (not the same thing though).
As a teacher I could use this book in class by asking my student who their best friend is, and then ask them why. We could brain storm as a class about what makes a best friend, why we want a best friend, do we need at best friend, etc. I like this book a lot it really hit home.

Excellent book by one of the greatest children's authors. Tom is a funny story about Tomie dePaola's Irish grandfather, Tom. They share a special relationship, their names, and a love for mischief. This is a great book for students to make connections.

This is Tomie dePaola's story of his life growing up with his grandfather, who he is allowed to call Tom. Tomie and his grandfather have a very close relationship and bond over tricks and mischief. Children can relate to this book if they have a special relationship with someone in their family!
