Fiction. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:"An instant classic...highly recommended!" ??New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Jennifer Probst USA TODAY bestselling indie author Alice Clayton delights readers with the sexy, laugh-out-loud romance of Caroline and Simon in Wallbanger, the first book in the Cocktail series! The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an??um??intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed "dating hiatus," and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly... In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at fir… (more)

This book is just so complete in every way! I literally laughed out loud more than a few times :-) There are no huge surprises, no psychological baggage with the main characters, and behind it all, there is a great friendship. While I fell in love with Pink Nighty and Wallbanger, the stars of the

show might just be Clive and Ms. O, complete with his smoking jacket and q-tip cigarette. Definitely a must read for anyone!

Caroline's life is pretty picture perfect. She's got everything most young successful women would want; good job, awesome boss, great friends, a cat that she can have conversations with (huh?), nice new apartment clad with hot neighbor who has three, count them three, girlfriends. All of which
Show More
continue to interrupt her precious sleep schedule with their very loud orgasms. You know, that thing that she hasn't had in years. Yes, years. Okay, so maybe she doesn't had everything most young successful women would want.

She tries to curb her annoyance of the naughty neighbor by consuming herself with his love life. She imagines what each woman is like and comes up with clever names for them. Purina is the one that meows. Cheeky! She stares through the peephole as they leave trying to glean some inside knowledge on what exactly this mysterious neighbors life must be.

“I started to roll my eyes, but that hurt. The right one was pressed so firmly against the peephole, you see.”

Alas, after several weeks of very little uninterrupted sleep, she gives up on being Miss Nice Neighbor and in the middle of The Wallbanger's (aptly named for the fact that his sex life knocks pictures off her walls) hot nightly routine ~ she walk's over and returns the favor of halting a good thing. They battle it out with words and come to a mutual dislike of each other.

Their worlds get intertwined by mutual friends and it sets Caroline and Simon (Wallbanger) up for what turns into an absolutely charismatic friendship. I was so thoroughly charmed by the rapport of these two. The romance doesn't start right away. They go from loathing to tolerance to pure friendship in a natural progression. Yes it is all lined with a big old spoonful of sexual tension but it's also sugary sweet and it makes it so so easy to fall in love with both of these characters.

Oh, and the humor! The 'funny' is by far the strongest part of the book. I think I could read anything Clayton writes for the humor alone. I giggled the entire time, which is saying a lot because I am not a giggler.

Eventually there is love and heartache which turns into anger and more love and a ton of sex all in search for that missing O. And that is where the book started to fall apart for me.

There is such a slow and intense build up to the sex and it worked really really well but then BAM! I mean BAM!! It's nothing but sex and sex and more sex followed by some hot sex. To the point where it wasn't even exciting anymore, just kind of annoying and found myself skimming.

Then, to end it all you have a chapter written by the cat. You know the one Caroline has actual conversations with? Yup, he gets his very own chapter and it was odd. I think it was meant to be cute, as the cat has a fairly ample presence in the book, but it just didn't work for me.

The first 90% of this book was an absolute joy to read and I won't hold back on reading other titles by Clayton. The last 10% was a tad peculiar for my liking but never the less this was a very entertaining read.

Wallbanger is a sensual, hilarious, and incredibly fun book that I very highly recommend! Alice Clayton sure knows how to write a sexy story filled with developed characters that will attach themselves to you and not let go!

The main character, Caroline, has such a strong and witty voice throughout
Show More
the entire novel, and I just love her! I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud uncontrollably at something Caroline did or said. Her friends are equally as amusing and likable, and one of my favorite secondary characters just so happens to be Caroline's cat, Clive! Yes, Clive is a cat, and he is pretty darn awesome. He is involved in some of my favorite scenes in the book and his presence fits so well into the story!

The fun in this book truly begins on Caroline's first night in her new apartment, when she is surprised to hear her neighbor having some very loud, and very graphic, wall-banging coitus. Simon, her neighbor, keeps up his nightly activities until Caroline confronts him after her own sexual frustration and irritation gets the better of her. What happens next unfolds in a series of hot, funny, and swoon-inducing moments that make me absolutely adore this book!

Caroline and Simon start off not very fond of eachother, but it's not long before they form a tight bond and friendship that leads to so much more. These two have impeccable chemistry and hilarious banter that is snarky as well as tender at times. Simon can be as sweet as he is smoldering, but when he turns on his charm it is quite dazzling! Him and Caroline have some incredible sexy times that are written so well that you will need to fan yourself vigorously afterwards!

This book makes me smile for so many reasons, and I will definitely be re-reading it in the future when I need a healthy dose of romance and laughter.

Nice fluffy romance.

PROS:
- Attempts of Humor (Sometimes the jokes/puns are funny, sometimes not so much)
- Nice build-up for a love story (they don't just jump into bed)
- A lot of fun twists to narration. There are chapters that are just sms messages exchanged between different
Show More
characters. One chapter is their thoughts while they are driving in the car (it's funny hearing what 4 different people think when they see something). There is even one chapter from cat's point-of-view.
- Delicious descriptions of food and cooking.

CONS:
- Attempts of Humor
- Talking to your vagina and O (orgasm).
- Carlone's (heroine) whining about the missing O.

I don't even know what I'm supposed to write here.

I don't get the hype, not really.

Nope.

The cheese. The innuendos. The romance. The fluff.

For those of you who don't care for chick-lit and cheese like me get out of here, this book is NOT for you. But with THAT title, cover and blurb you've already
Show More
figured that out.

I don't even understand Why I did read it. Maybe I was tired of seeing it every time I opened my Goodreads page or Amazon store.

It was not bad per se, it was just not me. I liked it well enough though.

For those of you who do love chick-lit and cheese -- *squeeeeeeeeeeee* you are gonna totally enjoy this book. It's what it is. It is funny, romantic, cheesy, corny, sweet, downright dreamy, droolworthy hero and a totally sassy heroine. And the chemistry - HAWT - though I would have preferred more bickering.

It's a really good book for the correct audience. Pity I wasn't it. Not completely. *winks*

WALLBANGER was a pleasant surprise. I ignored the first five or six rave reviews, mainly because it takes more than a few popular gimmicks to get my Kindle dollars these days. Unless the plot happened to be *just my favorite* trope ever, I've been leary about buying some of the romances that show

up on blog after blog after blog (BEYOND SHAME was another pleasant surpise this week. Even though I still don't care about the whole BDSM/group sex deal, the world and side characters were cool. I'm holding out on REAPER'S PROPERTY, though, as neither bikers (despite enjoying part of MOTORCYCLE MAN) or giant cocks (usually good for a huge eye roll) are instant sells for me).

Anyway, WALLBANGER. Not as silly as I had assumed, and I actually enjoyed the text conversations between all parties involved. The heroine's recalcitrant O got a little old, but it was essentially a device to emphasize that their romance was more than sex, so I applaud the thought.

Enjoying it. :) OMG. Clive is awesome! LOL. That last part is funny. The one that got away... :D

Will do a review after I finished Opal. ;)

3.5 stars and rounded up!

I really did enjoyed reading it for the most part. From the start it was funny. And I could totally imagine her hearing all that noise
Show More
at the other side of that wall. I laughed at Clive when he heard the "meow" thingy and then he attacked jumped that wall and scratch it trying to join them at the other side. :D

That is so freakin' hilarious plus when Clive finally met Purina. :P He was like "Purrrreeeeennnnyyyaaaa..." And he ran after the poor girl. That one was so EPIC in so MANY LEVELS that I can't get over it. Really, Clive, I wonder how did he know that THAT girl was Purina. From her voice? Maybe. All I am saying is that I want my OWN CLIVE. :P

So yes, it certainly had boring moments. And that sex scene? OMG. It's so freakin long. LOL. That part in Caroline's apartment? Ugh. I was like, please stop it already. I know you had your O back but I don't need to suffer from reading all that sex again and again and again. And talking while sexing? By talking I mean, like that normal talk/discussion... Er... Yeah...

But as I have said, I did enjoy it because their banter is so great and the chemistry is good too. Plus of course, there's Clive who really made a difference. :P And that last part? Where it's Clive POV?? I just had to laugh at the last line... The one that got away... :D

We have yet another piece of Twilight fanfiction to become a book. This one is actually one of the better ones that I've read in that new pseudo-genre. It reminds me of romantic comedies. Honestly, if this were a movie coming out in the early 90s, someone in Hollywood would have cast Hugh Grant as
Show More
Simon, even if Simon should look more gorgeous than Hugh. (Sorry, dude, it's true.)

The book was cute and very funny. I laughed a lot while reading it. It wasn't like the writer was trying too hard to be funny. The humor and jokes in the story just felt natural. I also loved how Caroline anthropomorphized her cat's behaviors and actions. Clive became yet another character, instead of just being a prop in the story. And I really enjoyed the interactions between Simon and Caroline. They were much more realistic than most relationships in romance novels.

I didn't like all of the texts that were in the stories. They were cute and funny, and they helped move the story along, but it was a bit hard to keep up with who was saying what. Is it too much to ask for something like that to have a way to distinguish who is saying what? I spent more time trying to figure out who sent what text than actually reading those texts. Maybe I'm lazy, but it seems like something like that should be a bit easier to read through.

I don't know the author's background, but I often felt like the book had more of a British style to it. The characters didn't exactly "sound" American. Some of their choices for slang were just more like what you'd read in a book featuring characters from across the pond. Even the name choices came across as more British than American.

Now, even though a lot of people would shy away from this book because it is, as I mentioned, a former piece of fanfiction, I would recommend they check it out anyway. It's a cute read. It's very enjoyable and I definitely think that even non-Twilight fans would find something to love about this book.

If you want a book that will make you laugh your ass off, well, Wallbanger is the perfect read for you! Alice Clayton had me at:

“Oh God.”
Thump.
“Oh God.”
Thump thump.

And yes, those are the first lines of the book. The thumping, the meow-ing and the giggling made me crazy, but it added more
Show More
spice to the story! Let me tell you, I was a little concerned before reading Wallbanger because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and it made my expectations higher but this book didn’t fail me.

Simon Simon Simon. SIMON PARKER-- “He had jet-black hair that stood straight up, likely from Giggler’s hands buried in it as he plowed into her. His eyes were piercing blue, and cheekbones just as strong as the jaw. Completing the package? Kiss-swollen lips and what looked like about three days’ worth of scruff.”

The sexy and smoldering guy in the story. At first I didn’t know what to think about him because all I know is that the thumping sounds were made by the girls who were with him and nothing else. And he was also like this mysterious man that Caroline kept on missing. There were a lot of times when they were already supposed to see or bump into each other but it never happened! Well, except for that incident that made Caroline the ‘pink nightie girl’. *laughs* Simon was sexy as hell and had a sense of humor that could make all the girls adore him.

I mentioned that I really had high expectations from Wallbanger and I certainly wasn’t disappointed at all. I know that many people were probably a little frustrated because of the slow progress of the relationship of Simon and Caroline but for me, it was… just right. I think I liked it because it wasn’t what I thought it would be, and the idea that this is something unexpected excites me. And OH MY GOSH their text messages…. It just got me. I kept blushing and laughing and blushing and laughing.

There were some parts wherein I just couldn’t stop being amused especially in this one scene where it involved Clive and the meow-ing girl. Seriously people, even if you hate cats, I absolutely assure you that you will love this fictional cat with the name Clive. *winks*

You can’t also miss the oozing sexual tension while they weren’t together yet. You’d really feel the frustration and at the same time, be amazed at how they can control themselves when they are around each other. Plus, the friendship of Caroline, Mimi and Sophia also amazed me. They’re one of the coolest fictional girls I have ever read about, trust me.

Before I end this review, I’ll share with you guys one of my most favorite quotes of all time. It’s just so simple but it struck me in a different kind of way. So, kudos to Clayton’s beautiful construction of these words.

“The right woman for you wouldn’t want you to change anything about your life. She wouldn’t rock your boat, she’d jump right in and sail it with you.”

So, I am giving 4 THUMPING STARS to Wallbanger.

It has the perfect blend of romance, wit, humor and sexiness. Readers will surely have fun reading this light-hearted and absolutely adorable story about Simon and Caroline!

Not my thing (it felt kind of Bridget Jones-y), but for a romance novel this was very progressive and feminist, and there was absolutely no slut-shaming at all.

Fun and funny romp of a read. I loved the banter between the two characters including the innuendos. I enjoyed the escape this book gave me and laughed at all the cat antics.

I laughed my way through this book. From about page two until nearly the end, I cackled, snorted nd giggled non-stop. It isn't a ridiculous comedy so much as a realistic, madcap adventure in urban living.

I loved the antagonism between the main characters, and the tight friendships they both had.
We don't see enough healthy friendships between women (or men) in modern romance.

The turn from enemies to friends to more was at turns hilarious, sweet and exasperating. I was sucked in from page one.

**Adult-only read**

Wooooooo! I knew I was buying this book the moment I saw its cover and man am I glad to say the book lived up to the awesomeness of the cover. Alice Clayton’s Wallbanger is a hysterical and hot little read which kept me
Show More
awake far too late the last two nights!

Caroline is a twenty-something interior designer (not a decorator!) who has just about everything a girl could want: a posh new apartment, a great job with an established firm, two fabulous best friends, and a cat, Clive, who adores her. What Caroline doesn’t have is a boyfriend or her orgasm, or more simply, O. Since Caroline is no longer looking for wham bam, thank you ma’am hook-ups she can deal with no boyfriend but her missing O is a bit troubling.

Simon aka Wallbanger is the smoldering hot guy next door who has a harem of women (affectionately known as Spanx, Purina, and the Giggler to Caroline) who parade in and out of his apartment on a regular basis. While Caroline doesn’t care who Simon bangs she does care that his sexcapades tend to happen late at night and often wake her up. Simon’s bed banging against their shared wall (hence the nickname) only serves to infuriate Caroline especially given the fact there is no O of her own to be had. One night Caroline reaches her breaking point which results in her storming across the hall to bang on Simon’s door and telling him exactly what she thinks of both him and his harem. Up to this point Wallbanger is a good read; after the tether snapping, it gets all kinds of better :)

The absolute highlight of this book is the finely crafted, super funny dialogue and interactions between the characters. Caroline is ridiculously funny, witty, sarcastic, and always calls it like she sees it. (The hot tub scene in Tahoe, for example) Her skills are matched and even tested by Simon who takes great pleasure in both taunting Caroline and shamelessly flirting with her. The conversations between Simon and Caroline (both real and by text) and the flirtations often left me laughing out loud or panting just a little. And the fun doesn’t end there: the interactions between Caroline and her girls, Sophia and Mimi and are just as entertaining as the interactions between Simon and his boys, Neil and Ryan. Add to all of this the drama of the boys and the girls hooking up and you quite simple have a fast and funny read which will pull you in immediately. Clayton has a way with words and she certainly passes that way along to her characters. I can’t believe I am about to say this but I was actually far more taken with the dialogue in this book than with the naughty bits and I adore naughty bits!

And now, on to the naughty bits  There are certainly some pretty awesome naughty bits in Wallbanger but you would be mistaken if you assume this book is all about the naughty and nothing more. You understand from the beginning Caroline and Simon are going to have sex and while their steamy scenes are numerous they all make sense within the overall plot and none are gratuitous. The journey the two of them take to the bedroom is funny, sweet, sometimes frustrating but above all necessary. After all, a girl can’t go forever without her O, right? Additionally, the journey to the bedroom (and kitchen and bathroom) allows each of the characters to grow as well as allowing the plot to move forward. At its core, Wallbanger is a very good read that also happens to have some really impressive sex scenes.

Bottom Line: Wallbanger hooked me with the fantastic cover and reeled me right on in at page one. The story is engaging and slightly naughty with characters who are both likeable and excellent additions to the overall story. Clayton has really managed to pull everything together in order to create a lovely and easy read which will satisfy nearly all who choose to indulge. Due to the language and naughty bits I can only recommend Wallbanger to adults but do I highly and enthusiastically recommend this novel. Bang on!!

Favorite quotes: I rarely ever add quotes to my reviews but these three made me laugh out loud. You can thank me later :)

“Sweet Lord, there were out-of-control pussies on both sides of this wall tonight.” (Pages 10—11): this will be so much funnier when you read the scene this comes from :)

“I was tired, I was horny with no release in sight, and my cat had a Q-Tip sticking out of his mouth that looked frighteningly like a tiny cigarette.” (Page 26): again, funnier when you know more about Clive the cat.

“I allowed myself a moment to indulge in a fantasy where I was then quickly flipped and ravaged to within an inch of my life, but I wisely got control of my inner whore.” (Page 138): context be damned, this is just funny!

I really loved the set up of this book. The wall-banging, harem owning hero and the self-confident owner of the funniest cat in romanceland, aka the heroine, make for a hilarious and quite original first encounter. Unfortunately, around the middle my initial B to A- rating went steadily downwards.

I love a long sexual build up and the promise of eroticism to scorch my pages later in a book, but since having read Wallbanger, I can safely say there IS something like too much build up, especially when the sex itself in the last fifth of the book is only mediocre. What probably went most on my nerves was the heroine’s inability to call a spade a spade. I am grown up, this is a grown up romance, and I frankly don't want to read sex scenes that remind me of infantile baby talk. Is it too much to ask to use words like vagina, pussy, cunt, cock or penis? I won't faint, I promise. But words like LC, as in lower Caroline, are cute the first time around but feel pretty silly when a couple in love gets down and dirty.

All together the book needs some serious shortening, because there is no real conflict in the story. Ok, the hero has a harem, but it's obvious from the start that the problem can be solved easily. And the heroine is missing her orgasm which she talks to like to an agony aunt, but again I am missing a true conflict. Usually, a book works with a good plot, good sex scenes or well-developed characters. If all three things are just mediocre, at least cut down the page number. Thanks to the secret hero of the story, Cliff the cat, I go with a C- instead of a D .

I do not enjoy chick lit. It is the book equivalent of the free lolly pops the cheap Denny's-like diners hand out at the cash register at the end of a meal: sugary froth that you won't remember once the wrapper is thrown away.

And this one has the formulaic items present:

*a couple of girlfriends who
Show More
are opinionated, loud, and often tipsy

*everyone has fabulous jobs in a fabulous city

*each character is beautiful

*silly self-talk (which approaches the purely ridiculous here)

*long, drawn-out, fake tension between the two MC's who will eventually have world-altering sex.

So do I really need to tell you anything else about this book? I will tell you there are some charming moments. Simon's love for Caroline's baking. The texting. The cat appears to have the most fulfilling life.

It's okay, give in. You won't remember it after you hit the back cover.

Cover love and Writing
I was a bit squeemish with the title of this book, but please people don't let that slow you down. I love the cover.. it works for the book. (and what I wouldn't do to have my legs wrapped around Mr. Wallbanger.) The writing had to be the best part of this book. It was down to earth, relatable. I loved how Clayton inserted the text messages and even had a chapter in third person when there were four people riding in the car.

Main Character
Caroline, a twenty something interior designer.. with a cat that keeps her warm at night, an affinity towards the Food Network, and missing her O. Sadly I feel as though I can relate to her.. for the most part. She is throwing everything into her work and friends, and dismisses what she was missing in real life. She knows now what she wants and is determined to settle for nothing less. Caroline is spunky and headstrong and I truly admire that.

Swoonworthy points: 9.5
Ok.. instead of babbling on an on about how hot and swoony this book is, I will quote the ways:

He stared into my eyes again, those sex sapphires doing their voodoo that made me a puddle of voodoo goo.

..they must have been able to hear Clive and all his carrying on. Although if I were impaled on the Wallbanger Wondercock, I imagine I could compartmentalize as well...

"Here's what you need to know. One, you're amazing," he said, his hands now traveling up to the small of my back, fingers and thumbs massaging and manipulating. "Two, you're amazingly sexy," he breathed.

Yeah, yeah.. those are all funny/sexy but there are some really sweet and romantic parts too.. Just these are the scenes I like to think of!!

I would enthusiastically recommend this book! As it made me so happy (and a little hot at times) to read!!

Lot's of Hot Sticky Sex but not until far into the book. There are a few side romances within the book that are a bit of a mess at first.

Quotes:

"Kittens, lay back. You are about to get Wallbanged"

"I panted like a whore in church. The Church of Simon...where I was dying to kneel before him."

"Okay, he smiled back.....Stupid tata turner-downer...I mean,
what's up with that? And he was hard!?

"the feeling of his hi-there against my hoohah was indescribable. He rained kisses down upon my neck, licking and sucking as I moaned like a whore in church."

"I was ready for some serious Simon Wang."

"An O has been lost, and I'm a sucker for a challenge."

I absolutely adored this book, right up until the ending. And the ending wasn't BAD; it was just not great like the rest of the book. The marathon of sex at the end didn't drive the story forward, in my opinion.
