As is the case in all anthologies (at least the ones I've read -- I don't do that often), there are several stories between the covers, and among those, there are always a few that stand out. In this book, there were 6 for me that rated highly: 1) Sir Dominick's Bargain, by J.S. LeFanu; 2) The

Hound, by HP Lovecraft; 3) Novel of the White Powder, by Arthur Machen; 4) Secret Worship, by Algernon Blackwood; 5) The Last Demon, by Isaac Bashevis Singer and 6), The Devil's Wager, by William Makepeace Thackeray. Of course, another reader may find some of the other stories brilliant as well.

All in all this is a delightful collection of short stories (and the occasional poem or two). I recommend it, if this is what you're looking for.
