A swift and simple short story about Lyra and Pan, revisiting Trollesund after the events of His Dark Materials. Not very much happens - Lyra and Dr Lanselius have a conversation, Lyra and Pan have a conversation. The pictures are beautifully drawn.

I was strangely disappointed that the book looked

like it was going to match my copy of Lyra's Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North, and then very slightly didn't.

This is a 70 page story about Lyra and Pan, written in 2004 and sold as a fundraiser for the British National Theater. I found it confusing, as it has been quite a while since I finished the His Dark Materials trilogy, the last of which came out in 2000. There are persons and events I didn't

recognize, but the woodcut illustrations by Tom Duxbury are a marvel and well worth the short quiet time you'll spend.

A glimpse at Lyra's start of reconciliation with Pantalaimon long after they have returned from their first set of adventures.

Lyra and Pantalaimon revisit the north after the events in the The Amber Spyglass. Acknowledging there is still an emotional distance between them, Lyra asks the witches' consul Dr Lanselius how to reconnect with her dæmon.

This is a quick and easy read, and it was good to spend time with Lyra and
Show More
Pan again after so long (I haven't read the books in The Secret Commonwealth yet). The woodcuts are intricate and evocative, and help lift the novella above the average reading experience.

a very short episode when Lyra returns to the North on an archaeological dig and finds out more about the powers of witches, the separation from daemons. I have a few questions about daemons, such as: when do they come, are they born at the same time as a person, do they find them later, as animals
Show More
do they have the same lifespan as humans, are they born with the human as a kind of soul and separate from them and take on an animal form, etc. etc. What about in intimate moments? I shall have to read the Book of Dust again as I can't remember if Lyra was already accompanied by Pan when she was rescued as a baby.

such a cute short story for the His Dark Materials world. I loved it. finished it easy within an hour.

A very short story featuring Lyra, Pan, and Dr. Lanselius. This piece provides an interesting perspective on the new trilogy Pullman's writing now. Nicely illustrated by Tom Duxbury.

An all-too-brief return to the lovely feeling His Dark Materials used to give me. But I thought the green book was supposed to be Will's?

This is another spin off story from the His Dark Materials universe, but I wouldn't even call this a novella, it's really more of a scene where Lyra and Pantalaimon travel to see Dr Lanselius to talk about witches and humans separating from their daemons. Lots of illustrations (not as good as in
Show More
the other books in my view) and plenty of spaces. Does feel like a bit of a rip off.

There's no there there.

A short story in which Lyra goes North on a college archaeological dig, and meets the Consul of the witches again. It doesn't have much plot, but is mainly about Lyra and Pantalaimon's relationship.
