An oversized book about the universe where the reader is transformed to a trip through a natural history museum. This is emphasized by the cover with a picture of a ticket that says; Welcome to the museum, admit all. Instead of an author and illustrator there are curators. This is similar to the
Chapters are divided into galleries. The first gallery is “looking at Space” and talks about radiation and light, telescopes, modern observatories, and space telescopes. Every spread in the gallery goes into detail with an extensive explanation of the one page illustration; key to plate is what it is called.
All the other galleries are related to parts of the universe starting with the solar system and the sun but there are also galleries on the night sky, stars and galaxies. The last chapter discusses the beginning of the universe and addresses the possible end.
There is an index in the back and half a page with information to learn more on the topic.
A beautiful illustrated book for elementary school but the text is for higher grades and could even carry on to middle school.
